Students are designing their own countries- deciding on core values, government systems, and laws- and using the books to create a guide that explains and promotes their new nation. The books help turn abstract ideas into something creative and concrete, and students are really engaged in the process. This is a final project for our Power unit, which focuses on the structures, powers, and responsibilities of the United States government.\r\n\r\nStudents were curious and interested when they first received the blank books. Several immediately started sketching cover ideas or planning how they'd organize their content. Having a physical book to work with made the project feel more real, and it motivated many to think more creatively and take greater ownership of their work. It was enriching to see students' collaborative creativity. \r\n\r\nAs students complete their books, I plan to display them in our school's media center so their peers can explore the creative governments they've designed. This gives students a chance to share their work with a wider audience and take pride in what they've created. Your contribution has made a remarkable impact, enabling us to offer students engaging, hands-on experiences that significantly enhance their understanding of chemistry. \r\n\r\nThe students have been absolutely thrilled with the hands-on experiences we've been able to provide, especially with the molecular model sets. They have expressed how much they appreciate being able to visualize atoms and molecules in a tangible way. This has not only deepened their understanding of chemistry concepts but has also sparked their curiosity and enthusiasm for science. They are genuinely excited and deeply appreciative of your support, which has truly made a difference in their learning journey.\r\n\r\nWe are excited to see how your support will inspire the next generation of scientists and thinkers. The students utilize the donated resources/ room items in variety ways that align with both ends of the Restorative Practices continuum (preventative/ coping exercises for conflict resolution and self/ social awareness and proactive community building ). For examples, the academic and athletic students ( whom the Restorative Practices Center Coordinator-Coach Barfield ,is also their sports Coach) visit Restorative Practices Center to say hey hello, and socialize in the calming area where the beanie bags , fidgets/sensory items , and basketball goal are in between classes and/or during lunch . The students also utilize the coloring books, sensory/fidget items, and beanie bags in the calming area for emotional regulation for mediation with other peers/friends who help ground them for additional moral support in conflict-resolution. Regarding students and staff initial reactions to the donated materials , many of them were very impressed, pleased with the aesthetics and layout of how we decorated the Center/Room with the donated materials expressed interest in coming back to revisit to just hangout and socialize. One of the main next steps the Restorative Practices Center Coordinator and I have been discussing for students is to have them engage more in giving back to their community( both in the school and/or the city) and develop/organize a Community Wall/space in the Restorative Practice Center to capture this data/ and impact .","fullyFundedDate":1733283781446,"projectUrl":"project/restorative-practices-center/8846722/","projectTitle":"Restorative Practices Center","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hughes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9786422"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1439","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1412,"numTeachers":90,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":63,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.3,"schoolId":1439,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hillside High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hillside High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/durham-public-schools/hillside-high-school/1439"}
