These materials will truly assist with the lessons revolving around self-identity in the classroom. Remember your ninth grade year? You're the newest kids in school? Trying to figure out how long classes are? Or even where the cafeteria is? How about trying to figure out where you fit in? My students are doing the same right now. With these books, I plan to do literature circles. Literature circles teach numerous things, but it focuses on the small group instruction. It allows for the readers to actually delve into the materials they have. These three books deal with issues that African-American adolescents face constantly. Through the funding of this project, learning will be relatable as well as practical. Students will further develop concepts like theme, and close reading analysis, while connecting to the characters on a deeper basis.
