They wanted to know his name and if he was real. I explained that if they were sad or needed someone to talk to, they could talk to Theo. We added Theo to our Cozy Corner/ Safe Place in the classroom. I see students over in the Cozy Center holding Theo and talking to him about their feelings. \r\n\r\nThe Light Table Pegs were also a big hit. The students were able to sort the pegs by color. My students are able to work on gross motor skills and turn taking inside the classroom. They also learn to identify shapes, numbers, and colors when they toss the beanbags.\r\n\r\nMany of my students were already familiar with Yoga because of their parents. A few students told me they do yoga at home with their parents. I have a relaxation leader who helps us relax before rest time. Sometimes, they choose a yoga exercise poster. We have begun our practice meetings and our students are really excited about reading the new books and competing against other area elementary schools this April. Reading for enjoyment is not only statistically correlated with higher academic achievement across subject areas, but also helps stimulate children's imaginations and develop their own thoughts and questions, as well as reducing stress levels by up to 68 percent. \r\n\r\nThis year's books are a variety of genres, with two high-fantasy, one low-fantasy, two realistic fiction, and one graphic novel, and students will be given the opportunity to be the \"expert\" in at least one book they enjoyed the most. The students took turns rolling vehicles down the ramps. I was able to show the pictures of the shapes then model how to use the materials to build the shapes. My students had to use their creativity to design a raft for the Gindgerbread Man to cross the river. They enjoyed retelling the story with the props.\r\n\r\nMy students have shown improvements with their engagement and confidence in math and literacy tasks. When it is time to clean up, the students have to sort the blocks by shape when they put them back on the shelf.\r\n\r\nSome students are working on their fine motor skills with the counting maze.
