It has helped to continue the LOVE of leisure reading as well admiration of a new series. During my maternity leave last year, I tasked my gifted students with reading \"The One and Only Ivan\". In my absence, students read and completed an culminating activity that focused on the growth of characters over time as well as other times they saw in the text. The book was such a hit , that students that were not in my gifted groups also read it and when I returned, they were literally begging me to get the rest of the series-- that is what prompted me to create this project. \r\n\r\nBecause I normally only work with gifted learners, this gave me the chance to extend my reach in my school and allow responsible students whether in my group or not, to check out and read the rest of the series.
