For many of my students, these aren't just \"treats\"—they are the fuel that helps them bridge the gap between lunch and the end of the day, ensuring they stay focused and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe Books: Adding fresh, engaging titles to our classroom library has sparked a new wave of excitement. Seeing a student's eyes light up when they find a book that reflects their own experiences or takes them to a brand-new world is a gift that keeps on giving.\r\n\r\nThe Impact You've Made\r\nBecause of your kindness, our classroom is a more equitable and welcoming space.\r\n\r\nReduced Stress: Students no longer have to worry about being the only one without a snack.\r\n\r\nIncreased Literacy: Having a diverse range of new books has noticeably increased the \"reading stamina\" of my students","fullyFundedDate":1769022709247,"projectUrl":"project/focused-learners/10044807/","projectTitle":"Focused Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Teacher Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3461729_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603846309164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3461729"},{"teacherId":4397041,"projectId":9609909,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity! One student even asked, \"Is this really for us to use every day?\" Seeing their excitement made it clear that these aren't just pieces of furniture to them; they are a sign that their comfort and learning preferences truly matter.\r\n\r\nWe have been using these resources to create \"Learning Zones\" during our independent reading and collaborative group blocks. A favorite moment this week was seeing a group of typically restless students completely locked into their novels, tucked away in the beanbag chairs and camping chairs in our new reading nook. The high-top table and stools have become the ultimate \"collaboration station,\" where students naturally gravitate to work together on science projects or peer-edit each other's writing. This variety has significantly reduced off-task behavior because students now have the agency to choose the environment that helps them focus best.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next step is to use the high-top table as a designated \"conference hub.\" I plan to meet with small groups there to provide targeted feedback on our upcoming research papers, while the rest of the class utilizes the portable camping chairs to spread out and find their own quiet workspace. They immediately gravitated toward the space, eager to explore the books and seating, and many asked when they would be able to read there. Your support helped create an environment where students feel encouraged to slow down, get comfortable, and build a positive relationship with reading.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using the reading corner as we work on building stamina, comprehension, and a love of reading. Because of you, my classroom will become an even more vibrant, inclusive, and joyful space for my students to learn, create, and explore who they are. The multicultural puppets, crayons, markers, construction paper, and people cutouts you helped us purchase will make a profound impact on the way my kindergartners see themselves and one another.\r\nFrom the moment my students watched me unpack the new materials, there was a collective \"wow!\" across the room. They were especially excited about the multicultural crayons and markers as I added them to their desk supplies. One child eagerly held up a brown crayon and exclaimed, \"This one matches me!\" Another student began mixing colors to find the perfect shade for their skin tone, saying, \"I can make my own color!\" What could have been a simple art activity quickly became a meaningful conversation about identity and belonging. My students learned that skin color is one of many things that make us special, and that every person's shade deserves to be represented.\r\nThe multicultural puppets have become an instant favorite during our storytelling and social–emotional learning times. Each puppet represents different backgrounds and features, allowing students to create stories that reflect the diversity of our classroom and community. During one activity, we used the puppets to act out scenarios about fairness, kindness, and inclusion. The students naturally used the puppets to show empathy and problem-solving — for example, helping a \"friend puppet\" who felt left out or voting together on how to make a group decision. Through play, they were practicing the core civics concepts of equity, respect, and voice — ideas that are often hard to teach at this age but come alive through creative storytelling.\r\nThe construction paper and people cutouts will help us extend these lessons into art and writing. Each student can create a self-portrait using materials that finally allowed them to represent their true skin tone, hair texture, and facial features. I just know how incredible it will be to see how proud they are to make \"people\" that actually look like them. We will use the puppets and cutouts to create a \"Kindness Community\" wall, where students will add drawings of themselves doing something that helps our classroom — sharing supplies, including others at play, or cleaning up after centers. The sense of ownership and pride they will feel in seeing their work displayed will be powerful.\r\nThese simple but deeply meaningful materials will transform not only how we make art but also how we talk about ourselves and one another. Every day, my students are developing language to describe fairness, feelings, and respect. They are learning that every person deserves to be seen and valued — lessons that go far beyond kindergarten. \r\nAs we continue the year, our next steps include using these materials in a \"We Belong\" storytelling project, where students will create puppet shows celebrating their unique identities and family traditions. They will also collaborate on a large \"Friendship Mural\" using their people cutouts to represent how our classroom community fits together — different colors, sizes, and personalities, all connected. These activities will help reinforce the message that inclusion and representation are not just topics for discussion, but ways of being every day.\r\nYour generosity has given my students the tools to see themselves in their learning, to express pride in who they are, and to celebrate the beauty of our differences. You have helped us build a foundation for understanding justice, respect, and belonging — values that will shape these children for years to come. Thank you for investing in their confidence, creativity, and voices.
