Because of your support, our classroom has been transformed into a more welcoming, engaging, and inclusive space for my students.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donations, we received new therapy mats, crash pads, sensory tiles, games and toys focused on fine motor development, and educational posters. These resources have already made a world of difference.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with pure joy and curiosity. There were squeals of excitement, hands reaching out to explore the textures of the sensory tiles, and immediate dives onto the crash pads—giggling all the way. It was truly a moment I'll never forget.\r\n\r\nNow, these tools are woven into our daily routine. The crash pads and therapy mats provide a safe and calming space for students to move their bodies, regulate their energy, and reset when needed. The sensory tiles have become a favorite during transitions, helping students ground themselves between academic tasks. The fine motor games are not only fun but are building essential skills that support writing and other classroom activities. Together, all of these tools are helping students address the underlying motor patterns that can affect reading and writing, giving them a stronger foundation for success.\r\n\r\nJust the other day, one of my students who typically struggles with focus sat down after some calming movement on the mats and completed a full writing assignment independently—something that would have been incredibly difficult before.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are using these resources as part of a larger classroom project focused on self-regulation and academic readiness. Students are learning how to advocate for their own sensory needs, choosing tools and strategies that help them stay engaged and comfortable throughout the day. It's been inspiring to watch their independence and confidence grow.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Young children can experience big emotions but often lack the language to explain how they are feeling. Many times these four-and-five year olds are attending school for the first time when they begin kindergarten and it is not uncommon for them to experience big emotions such as homesickness, anxiety, frustration, feeling overwhelmed, and uncertainty. My goal is to help students learn to identify what they are feeling and teach them strategies to help them manage their emotions. \r\n\r\nThe materials for this project were used to create a calming corner in my classroom with the tools and space for students to calm and reset themselves. In this area, I've placed a caddy filled with a variety of sensory and stress-relief toys to help soothe students who are upset or dysregulated. This designated area provides a space for my students to take a break and reset. The toys and breathing activities have been so useful in helping students learn to de-escalate and transition back to learning. The calming corner has also reduced the need to have students removed from the classroom for disruptive or unsafe behavior. \r\n\r\nI am so appreciative that this project also allowed me to purchase additional read-alouds for my classroom library. The read-alouds selected were written to be relatable to primary-aged children. I have been incorporating them into our Morning Meeting as particular topics become relevant (for example, making mistakes). This is helping all of my students develop the vocabulary to identify their feelings and learn strategies and coping skills for managing them appropriately. \r\n\r\nThank you again for contributing to my project and supporting my students. The materials are already having a positive impact on the 23 students I have this year, and I am grateful that your generosity will also benefit my future classes.","fullyFundedDate":1726943339655,"projectUrl":"project/mindfulness-matters/8783571/","projectTitle":"Mindfulness Matters","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cutaia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7410910_orig.jpg?crop=1263,1263,x1330,y295&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597261785488","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7410910"},{"teacherId":291684,"projectId":8381584,"letterContent":"Keeping current in the library is a challenging task!
