Your gift has arrived at a truly pivotal moment for my students, particularly those who have struggled to find their footing as readers. When books arrived in our classroom, something remarkable happened: reluctant readers began to see reading not as an obligation, but as a doorway to stories that actually speak to them. The diverse titles you provided have allowed me to meet my students where they are, offering narratives with characters and experiences that feel relevant and authentic to their lives. Through these texts, students are building essential skills like making text-to-self connections, analyzing character motivation, and recognizing how authors use dialogue and setting to create meaning. More importantly, they're discovering that reading can be enjoyable, surprising, and even transformative.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has transformed into something dynamic and engaging. Instead of everyone reading the same book at the same pace, students now have choice: they're selecting titles that genuinely interest them, which means they're actually finishing books. We've incorporated book talks where students share recommendations with one another, created reader's response journals, and started discussing themes that matter to them personally. I've noticed a particular shift in a few students who previously refused to read: one student who typically avoided any text has become deeply invested in a graphic novel series, asking for the next book in the series. Another student, who struggles with traditional novels, found a free verse novel that mirrors her own experiences and has opened up about how validating it feels to see her story reflected on the page. These moments when a reluctant reader becomes an engaged reader are exactly why diverse, high-interest book collections matter so profoundly.\r\n\r\nYour investment in these books is an investment in my students' confidence, literacy, and love of reading. One way students celebrate their completion of a novel is by selecting a bead and adding it to a keychain as a visual representation of something they can be proud of and take home at the end of the school year. Their keychains have visibly become more filled since receiving your donation. Thank you for believing in the power of the right book at the right time.","fullyFundedDate":1773873175428,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-click-inspiring-middle-schoo/10063157/","projectTitle":"Books That Click: Inspiring Middle School Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stratton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3759667_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471355602785","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss-petersonsvcs"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21782","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":375,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":54.5,"schoolId":21782,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Norwich Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Norwich Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/norwich-city-school-district/norwich-middle-school/21782"}
