The start of a new school year is the perfect time to update our classroom with fresh materials. This project will help my students jump right in to curriculum in a supportive classroom environment and have additional resources that make the day run smoothly. \r\n\r\nThe class set of mesh bags will be utilized as book baggies that students can bring from school to home. This is an important practice in our class, as it supports the students' literacy development in a meaningful way. Students will have more access to books and increase their volume of reading during both the school day and at home. Prior to this project, we were using gallon-sized ziplock bags and they needed frequent replacements. Students work in small groups to follow directions, describe their designs, ask and answer questions, and explain their thinking using new vocabulary. During one recent STEM challenge, students designed structures that could withstand different weather conditions. They practiced words like \"strong,\" \"stable,\" \"balance,\" and \"support\" while collaborating in English to solve problems.
