Occupational therapists help individuals to participate in daily activities in school, at home, and in the community. Teens with an autism face unique daily challenges due to difficulties with social communication and sensory processing. Students who receive occupational therapy (OT) in my high school, typically have goals designed to enhance their ability to engage with peers in multi-step tasks that can translate into improved skills for academic and community based function, including those necessary for employment. My goal is to make the OT interventions and sessions fun, engaging, purposeful and appropriate for the students needs.
