The Art Lesson was to create a Logo Name design on the front of their Art Portfolio ( as donated by Donors Choose) either creating a font design in block lettering, 3 dimensional block lettering or bubble lettering. I modeled the different types of lettering and the students practiced which type of lettering they were going to create onto their donated folders. Thank you again!\r\nThe Art Students especially the younger art students were so happy when they were told the folder/art portfolio belongs to them forever; they were singing!\r\nThe next step is my art students will create with the art paper donated sketch books; the students also create a name logo design either the same or different style from the front of the Art Portfolio. The purpose of the art sketchbook is at the beginning of each class they will receive a 5 minute \"Do Now\" drawing prompt and date their work and at the end of each month the students can evaluate their drawing growth, interests and how they would like to proceed in different materials/art projects and to guide them for college and career ready! Students created the playbill image to painting the set and helping cut the pieces for their costume. We had help from parents, students and staff all around with this years production. This helped build a great sense of community for the whole school. In addition students this years got to perform on a broadway stage through a partnership with Disney Musical in Schools. These items in this donation help every student look their best on the big stage. Your donations helped us to purchase the additional materials we needed to manage our first harvest and our future harvests from our Aeroponic Garden! \r\n\r\nOur First Grade Agricultural Engineers used the garden shears to harvest gourmet lettuce from our Aeroponic Garden. They cleaned the lettuce and use the cutting boards to help them make a garden salad that included our harvest from the garden.\r\n\r\nOur PreK Agricultural Engineers used the garden shears (with assistance) to harvest rainbow chard from our Aeroponic Garden. After using their five senses to describe the leaves, they made a smoothie using rainbow chard, banana, frozen pineapple and water. \r\n\r\nBoth the smoothies and the salads were delicious! All students were able to take home some of our harvest to their families! Our Grade 5 Lab assistants will use the remaining supplies to take apart the aeroponic garden for the summer. Next year, our hope is to make sure we go through multiple grow cycles throughout the year. The STEAM lab provides all our SWANNs (Students with Abilities and Novel Needs) access to project-based learning and the opportunity to explore the world through the lens of engineering.\r\n\r\nWe have learned that participating in project-based learning means that we have to be able to manage our own emotions and use multiple strategies for collaborating with others. However, sometimes it's difficult for us to manage our emotions and the cozy corner provides us with a quiet space to help us calm down and refocus. The kick bands and calming strips at the lab tables help us meet our sensory needs while we are working in our teams. We love that although the STEAM lab is a science-centered space, there is still plenty of room for us to manage our emotions and our sensory needs. Your support means that we get more time in the lab learning together. They always ask to work in this center because they love to engage with the letters. The tiles allow them to manipulate and physically slide the letters together to make new words. They have been so excited to use them and are so excited that they can now read.\r\n\r\nThe ability to have hands on materials really makes a difference especially in our ICT class where we have all types of learners. These tiles allow them to physically manipulate the letters to create the words that they read. These letter tiles give them ownership and help them to be a leader in their own learning.\r\n\r\nWhat is really nice about these tiles is that the students can also be the teachers and they are able to work in partnerships and create words for their partner to read. We haven't even begun to explore the numbers sides of our blocks yet and they are so excited to use them in Math. One of my little friends said hey we can put them in the way they go (Number Order).
