My amazing students are like sponges~ so excited to come into the art room and begin creating, completing and adding to their projects. They are tactile and the sensory part of feeling new materials is always inspiring! In the community project passing around building materials such as maple and cherry wood samples, tile and mini bricks help them to draft their drawings into their sketch books. Then the students actually take different textured papers and shape/cut the buildings they will create into their community collage. I have a Creative Material bin where students will shop for different types of material to enhance their collage. They are filled with delight as they add metallic materials, feathers, ribbons which add to the aesthetic quality and the smiles are priceless! Adding the frame the students also decorated as well as named their Community Collage making their projects stand out and gallery ready!
