The scholars have been having a blast reading the book, Journey to Mars. It connects greatly with the Mars kits the students are about to begin after the state exam. It has become a motivational tool for the scholar's to do well on their assessments and to be able to work in groups to grow food on Mars in a simulation. The students have been researching how to care for plants and how to grow food on Earth and will be building their knowledge on how to grow food in space without dirt. The children are presently naming their colonies and distributing jobs to foster food growth on Mars hydroponically. The books have truly brought the unit to life by connecting the history of space travel with what is currently being engineered present day. The children love the books about the rovers Opportunity and Curiousity.\r\n\r\n\tThe greatest impact from your donations was the discreet accessibility to deodorants; the children deeply appreciate it. Some of the children in our classroom live in temporary housing and at times do not have access to basic needs. Each child received deodorants in the beginning of the year and again, as we near the end of the school year. The children feel included and it does not leave anyone feeling isolated because it is a necessity we all have.Your generosity has given the children the independence to take care of themselves without the worry of others. \r\nThe headphones have truly saved the day; the children are able to use it as they work with audio books and academic practices. It is essential in this classroom and gives the children the freedom to use when necessary without worrying about who wore the headphones previously. I began the year as a kindergarten teacher and mid year transitioned to 3K. Working with 3 and 4 year old children has been the most rewarding experience I've had as an educator. It is in this classroom I got see the materials used through play and instruction. \r\nUpon seeing the materials my little ones eyes lit up and they were fully engaged and ready to go. They had so many questions, how do we use it? Where can we use it? Is it ours? Each week they were introduced to something new and exciting to add to their learning center. All of which helped with things like fine and gross motor skills, coordination, social emotional development, and speech. I put the materials in the centers that were suitable for their usage. Scholars used the dolls to help gain an understanding of how to get dressed.
