The seats were so colorful and looked so nice! As my students continue on their journey to boost their literacy skills, understanding the vocabulary words they are reading will have a huge impact in their reading comprehension.\r\n\r\nEvery week they review a scientific article. Part of the process is to annotate any word they don't understand. They then use the dictionaries to define those words. \r\n\r\nUsing the dictionaries instead of a computer builds multiple skills at once. The dictionaries reinforce the skill of learning how to use the resources you have access to, as well as reinforcing alphabetically order and exposure to all the forms a word might take. Of course, I snuck in a sweet treat that always brings smiles when opening their bags. The faces of my students when they see all the large boxes sitting in the front of the classroom is truly priceless! These donations truly make school fun, exciting and hilarious!\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, I have noticed an increase this year where students are truly struggling with food insecurity. Thank goodness our students receive free breakfast and lunch but going home to an empty cupboard is quite common for my students. The snacks are truly more important than you would think. Handing students a small treat with a smile sure shows that I truly care about them!\r\n\r\nIt seems like I am seeing more and more children with stuffy noses, coughing and just not feeling well but still coming to school regularly. Why are these children coming to school sick? Once again, the food provided by our cafeteria and teachers. These incredible students are hungry!
