Teaching about minerals and rocks is a large part of the Regents Earth Science course in New York State. It is important for the students to have a hands-on experience with them to learn about them and their properties. We have a supply of various rocks, but very little minerals to work with and learn from. By having several sets of the minerals in the classroom, students will be able to test their streak, hardness, cleavage, etc. easily and independently and get a feel for the minerals in general which will help them on the lab portion of their Regents Exam.
