The day the supplies arrived, my students walked in and immediately noticed. There was this quiet pause, shocked faces and then smiles. One of my students actually said, \"Wait... these are for us?\" Watching them carefully open new pallets, test fresh pens, and hold quality brushes in their hands was such a powerful moment. They felt seen. They felt valued.\r\n\r\nWe are already putting the materials to work. One student is developing a detailed realism drawing using the new fine liners to build depth and precision. Another is expanding his comic about brotherhood, experimenting with cleaner line work and stronger contrast. My student working in oil paint is layering richer color to communicate the emotional weight of junk food addiction. The colored pencils are being used to create vibrant illustrations meant to reignite excitement around reading. Some have won awards using these exact materials! The snacks have also made a difference, students who used to work through hunger now have something small to refuel them so they can stay focused and energized during long studio sessions.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will begin refining these works into portfolio-ready pieces for submission. We are focusing on revision, risk-taking, and pushing their ideas further. They are learning how to critique, adjust, and elevate their art to the next level. Because of your support, they can experiment without fear of \"wasting\" materials. They have the freedom to try again, layer more, and think bigger.\r\n\r\nYou didn't just fund supplies. You gave my students confidence. You gave them space to grow. And you reminded them that their creativity matters beyond the walls of our classroom. For that, we are endlessly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1763841297447,"projectUrl":"project/advanced-art-supplies-and-snacks/9891536/","projectTitle":"Advanced Art Supplies and Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Soto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7720401_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1610566117500","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7720401"},{"teacherId":7720401,"projectId":10052990,"letterContent":"Our new snack station has become part of our AP Studio routine. The students were so excited when they first saw the variety of treats.\r\nLast year, we used the snacks for our end-of-year party, which was a wonderful way to celebrate students' hard work and achievements. This year, having snacks available from the start of the school year has been a great way to kick things off. Students began the year feeling energized, appreciated, and ready to learn. Snacks are not just an incentive in our classroom; they also ensure that students who might come hungry from home can stay engaged and ready to learn. Your contribution directly helped them succeed in lessons and feel cared for.\r\nAs we move forward, we plan to continue integrating these snacks into collaborative problem-solving activities and classroom incentives, always keeping a focus on healthy options. Your support helps our students maintain focus, energy, and confidence as they tackle new algebra concepts, and it allows our classroom to remain a safe, inclusive space where every student can thrive.\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your generosity and for giving our students this meaningful boost in both energy and morale.","fullyFundedDate":1742823883227,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-success-empowering-students-wit/9104922/","projectTitle":"Fueling Success: Empowering Students With Snacks for Learning and Well-Being","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Buri","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9354861"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81137","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2110,"numTeachers":132,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":50.6,"schoolId":81137,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East Side High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East Side High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/newark-public-schools/east-side-high-school/81137"}
