I would love to give my students the opportunity to learn the value of responsibility in addition to the impact of the economy on the growth and destruction of ecosystems. As we study the effect of the demand of plant and animal products on the ecosystems in which they reside, the students perform lab experiments to personally visualize these consequences. Unfortunately, our classroom does not have access to a space to clean the materials and students' hands following an experiment. As a consequence, students are unable to maintain personal cleanliness, and are not being held responsible to clean their own materials. Having sinks in the classroom would allow them to maintain proper hygiene, abide by lab safety rules, and would hold them accountable for their proper clean up routines.
