I read this book to my students during our circle time and then students took turns trying each of the instruments out. They then all played an instrument together as we made music like we were our own little band. The favorite instruments among the students were the chinese gong and the keyboard. They really enjoyed singing with the microphone that came with the keyboard. In a number of instances students that had accidents during the day were able to go home with clean new pants thanks to this project. \r\n The students feel loved and cared for when their basic needs are met. This allows them to recognize school as a safe and welcoming place that treats everyone equally. As we continue to combat chronic absenteeism the attitude of students towards school becomes a large part of the issue.
