The items that were purchased with your help have helped our daily routine of using our laptops for Math and Literacy tremendously as they have allowed us to be able to plug in our headphones with ease and so that we can focus on the skills that we are learning at our pace. Having the adapters that work have helped with the delay in changing those that didn't work and had to take away from the time that students could be focusing on their learning. \r\n\r\nIn this project we requested help with purchasing some supplies that would help us with our science learning. We use our science journals every time that we learn science content. Labels were a big help as this has helped me to be able to print out their focus question and have them place that sticker onto their journal, cutting back time to be able to focus on sharing their knowledge of what we are learning in their journals. 1st graders LOVE Science. We were able to use our WindBots to learn about how wind moves items. This was a big hit. \r\n\r\nWith this project I also requested some incentive prizes that students could earn for good behavior in the classroom and earned points throughout the week. Students look forward to Mondays when they have a choice to redeem some points, all points or save their points for the end of the school year. It has been exciting to see their excitement to find out what is in the prize box. \r\n\r\nI am most excited to share the different Science projects that we have learned in our classroom and that with your generosity they have been able to share their learning in their journals and with hands-on activities like the WindBots. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity in helping my 1st graders with their education especially through Science.","fullyFundedDate":1768164363639,"projectUrl":"project/science-rules/9998919/","projectTitle":"Science Rules!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Frye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9400016"},{"teacherId":9400016,"projectId":10035316,"letterContent":"On behalf of my 1st graders and myself we are so grateful for your generosity and willingness to help us grow and learn throughout the school year. As a 1st grade teacher there is such a huge impact and skills that go into Read Alouds. One of the biggest and most impactful is expanding their vocabulary beyond what they already know. Listening to stories that are beyond 1st grade reading level, challenges them and helps them with their comprehension, vocabulary and listening to a variety of genres beyond picture books. It peaks their interest in other books and subjects. I have also introduced more art that is aligned with the books that we have read and their creativity is amazing to see. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom students read to themselves or a stuffy that we have in our classroom. This allows them to build on reading for fun on their own. We also have Read Alouds at least 3 times a week. This year we have read the chapter book, The Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl along with others. Although that is a long book my students enjoyed it and looked forward to watching the movie once we were through reading the book. We read the entire book prior to going on a school break and watched the movie. Reading the novel prior to watching the movie they were able to make comparisons and differences in the two. \r\n\r\nI have not yet read a book to them that they have not enjoyed listening to. If I had to share one story about a book that they listened to was, Turkey Trouble. This was all about a turkey that was trying to hide from the farmer to avoid becoming Thanksgiving dinner. Their project was to disguise their turkey to avoid becoming Thanksgiving dinner. Their imagination was amazing with this project. I have attached photos of their creativity. \r\n\r\nI look forward to continuing to read more and more books to my 1st graders this year and in the future. Again, we thank you for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1770007273920,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-little-minds-one-book-at-a-tim/10035316/","projectTitle":"Expanding Little Minds One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Frye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9400016"},{"teacherId":10188175,"projectId":10040872,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our pre-kindergarten students are thriving with new hands-on materials that spark creativity, curiosity, and joyful learning.\r\nOur classroom has been buzzing with excitement ever since the new resources arrived. The students' eyes lit up as they explored the community helpers dress-up center, stepping into roles like firefighters, doctors, and teachers, while learning about the important work these helpers do in our community. The painting station has become a favorite spot, where children express themselves, experiment with colors, and develop fine motor skills through playful creativity. These activities are encouraging collaboration, problem-solving, and storytelling, as students share their ideas and experiences with one another.\r\nThe impact goes beyond fun—students are building foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. Every day, small moments of discovery show how curiosity and engagement have increased: a child counting blocks carefully, another retelling a story they acted out at the dress-up center, a group collaborating on a colorful art project. Your donation has given children the tools to explore, imagine, and learn in ways that are both meaningful and memorable.\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to continue integrating these materials into ongoing lessons, creating new experiences that challenge and inspire our students. From collaborative projects to explorations of science and math through play, your generosity is helping to cultivate lifelong learners and confident, creative thinkers. Every time our students run to the dress-up center or proudly display their latest painting, your support is at the heart of these moments—and we are deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1769027640642,"projectUrl":"project/from-empty-shelves-to-endless-possibilit/10040872/","projectTitle":"From Empty Shelves to Endless Possibilities: New Pre-K Strategies Class","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Waz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10188175"},{"teacherId":8154687,"projectId":10029431,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my preschool speech and language learners. Your generosity has brought so much joy, curiosity, and confidence into our classroom. When the materials arrived, my students immediately gravitated toward the sensory bins, running their hands through the colorful kinetic sand and excitedly searching for hidden animals. Even my quieter students began labeling what they found and proudly sharing with friends. It was a beautiful reminder of how the right tools can spark communication.\r\nThe sensory materials have already made a meaningful difference. The kinetic sand and textured spheres help students regulate their bodies, while the animal figurines, sorting tiles, and speech therapy games turn vocabulary, articulation, and categorization into engaging, hands‑on experiences. One of the most popular new activities is our \"Mystery Sand Search,\" where students dig for animals and practice naming, describing, and sorting them—building language skills through joyful play.\r\nAs we continue our storytelling and language‑building units, these resources will help us create more interactive play scenes, sentence‑building activities, and comprehension games. The new storage bins also make it easy for students to access materials independently, giving them ownership over their learning.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and giving them meaningful experiences that help them find their voices. Because of your kindness, students in grades K–5 are able to explore, create, and learn in new and exciting ways.\r\n\r\nThe items you provided have already made a huge impact. The illustrated Harry Potter books have quickly become some of the most popular books in the library. They are almost impossible to keep on the shelves because students are constantly checking them out! It has been wonderful to see so many students excited about reading and eager to get their hands on these beautifully illustrated stories.\r\n\r\nThe KEVA Planks have also been an incredible hit with students. They have inspired creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving during our STEM activities. One student even built an impressive dragon, which I included a picture of to share with you. Seeing students so proud of their creations has been amazing.\r\n\r\nYour donations have also helped improve the day-to-day experience in our library. Shelf markers are helping students remember exactly where their books came from, book repair tape is helping us keep well-loved books in circulation, and the dry erase contact paper allows us to create flexible learning and activity spaces.\r\n\r\nThe Cricut light board has been especially helpful for creating artistic displays and materials for the school and library more efficiently. With the colored pencils, markers, cardstock, and copy paper, students can also design bookmarks and participate in creative library activities. Even small touches like the mandrake plant decoration have added fun and personality to our space.\r\n\r\nEvery item you donated is being used and appreciated. Most importantly, your support is helping create a library where students feel excited to read, build, create, and explore.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for helping make our library such a vibrant place to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1768250845243,"projectUrl":"project/whitehead-loves-stream/9989501/","projectTitle":"Whitehead Loves STREAM!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sorensen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9418247_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768006542594","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9418247"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53139","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":234,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":30,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"8.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.8,"schoolId":53139,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jerry Whitehead Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jerry Whitehead Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/washoe-county-school-district/jerry-whitehead-elementary-school/53139"}
