Coming into my classroom last year, I saw the condition the desks were in and knew right away I should do something to help. Little did I know that the cause to action would turn into the biggest project I have ever taken on. My goal was to replace all 36 desks in one school year. At the end of the school year, I was only at half. This project was a last ditch effort to get the other half. I know and understand that it is recommended not to go over $1000 for projects on DonorsChoose. But, I went ahead anyway and put the remaining half into one project, hoping that a miracle would happen.\r\n\r\nAnd then one day, over the summer, I got my miracle. Through the kindness and generosity of all donors for this project, my students got to start the year with ALL brand new desks. As students and parents came in on Open House night I did hear lots of comments about how unique they were. I explained to all about how they came to be and why this class was special; because they would be the first to get the benefit.\r\n\r\nI cannot wait to do group projects with these students as I feel the discourse will be better. We have already done turn and talk with our partners and pair work in which case everyone enjoyed having the comfort of a new desk. They didn't have to worry about the desk collapsing during work or hitting a chip and messing up their paper. They don't have to worry about how many years old gum under their desk. By adding this microphone, their videos now have a professional sound that matches the high-quality footage they are already capturing.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting piece for the students has been the 74\" JOILCAN tripod. Because it stands taller than our previous gear, it has allowed them to capture angles they couldn't reach before, especially during crowded school events.
