Students are using magnetic blocks, PicassoTiles marble runs, classic building bricks, and Gears! Gears! Gears! sets to design structures, build moving machines, and test cause-and-effect relationships. These open-ended materials encourage students to plan, build, problem-solve, and revise their designs while working both independently and collaboratively.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and contagious. They eagerly explored the kinetic sand, experimented with magnetic connections, and worked together to create tall towers, rolling marble runs, and spinning gear systems. Many students naturally took on roles such as designer, builder, or tester, demonstrating teamwork and communication skills. For several students who struggle in traditional academic settings, these materials provided a powerful opportunity to experience success and confidence.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue to refine their engineering projects by creating more complex builds, experimenting with motion and balance, and collaborating on shared designs. These activities strengthen critical thinking, creativity, and social skills while fostering a love of learning through play-based exploration. Because of you, our classroom is a place where students feel empowered to create, engineer, and collaborate in meaningful ways.","fullyFundedDate":1765934844740,"projectUrl":"project/engineering-creativity-and-collaboratio/9958542/","projectTitle":"Engineering, Creativity and Collaboration","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7823724_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1625779023147","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7823724"},{"teacherId":7823724,"projectId":9713344,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! When my students first saw these tools, they were so excited—they couldn't wait to start writing, drawing, and keeping their work neat. Whiteboards, dry erase markers, and erasers have made lessons more interactive and fun, allowing students to practice skills in hands-on ways that boost engagement and understanding.\r\n\r\nThe Take a Break Rug and Purrble sensory calming toy have been amazing self-regulation tools. I've already seen students use them to refocus and manage emotions independently, which helps them stay ready to learn. Snacks provided through the project also keep students energized and attentive throughout the day.
