We used the dry erase markers daily on modeling boards, I go through a lot of them so both students and myself appreciated having a variety of colors to differentiate variables and element symbols when solving chemical equations. Student used a different color dry erase marker when writing problems on modeling boards to easily show where chemical symbols were substituted for molar mass values. Many students struggle with isolating variables or substituting variables in an equation. Having a variety of colors allows students to follow a variable from its chemical symbol to its mathematical value within a problem. In half reactions students substitute the positive or negative value in place of the element(s) symbol to ensure they are using the correct value.
