Last year, I went through several pencil sharpeners and this is much needed especially for my 3 drawing classes. We are going to use the sharpies for several projects for drawing class and art 1. Sharpies are great because they can be used with watercolor paintings, colored pencils and even oil pastels. My favorite project to use sharpies for is a Chuck Close inspired self-portrait. High school students are self-conscious and don't like focusing on themselves and this project is so important to attempt to overcome some of these insecurities. They will first draw out their self-portrait in pencil and then begin to add small doodles in each section in sharpie. This creates a strong positive and negative space contrast.
