Students now have a comfortable and welcoming area where they can settle in with a book, practice their reading skills, and begin to develop a genuine love for reading. What was once just an idea is now a favorite spot in the room—one that students are excited to use every day.\r\n\r\nBeyond reading, this corner has become a versatile learning hub. With organized materials for math, literacy, and science, students are able to smoothly transition between activities while staying focused and engaged. The addition of calming music and read-alouds has created a peaceful atmosphere that helps students feel relaxed and ready to learn, while the whiteboard gives them opportunities to collaborate, practice new skills, and share their thinking in interactive ways.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this space supports not only academic growth but also social-emotional development. We now use the recent corner daily as a safe and structured space where students can take a break, regulate their emotions, and refocus. They practice calming strategies such as deep breathing, looking through SEL books, and using them materials to help them feel grounded. The edible reinforcements have also been highly motivating, encouraging students to make positive choices and work toward goals.\r\n\r\nAs a result, my students are becoming more independent in managing their emotions and behaviors. We use them during whole group instruction to model number relationships and during small group practice to build fluency with addition, subtraction, and making ten. One standout moment was watching students independently represent the same number in multiple ways by sliding beads, explaining their thinking out loud, and checking one another's work with confidence. These tools have helped make abstract math concepts visible and tangible for all learners.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the rekunreks, their reaction was immediate excitement and curiosity. Many students asked if they could use them \"right away,\" and several who are usually hesitant in math jumped in eagerly. Because the beads are hands-on and colorful, students felt more comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and trying again. I've especially seen growth from students who benefit from visual and tactile learning because they're more engaged and more willing to explain their reasoning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue using the rekunreks as we work on strengthening number sense, place value, and mental math strategies. These tools will support upcoming lessons where students justify their thinking and solve problems in multiple ways. Because of you, our students now have hands on opportunities to learn in exciting and meaningful ways. In our kindergarten through second grade classrooms, students will be able to use the Botley 2.0 Coding Robots to practice early problem solving and sequencing skills. Without screens, students program Botley using simple commands, which helps them understand how giving clear instructions leads to specific outcomes. In grades three through five, students are working with micro, small programmable devices that allow them to explore coding, math, and science concepts while creating real, interactive projects. \r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is that they are not just using technology they are creating with it. Younger students light up as they successfully guide Botley through obstacle courses they design themselves, celebrating each small success and eagerly trying again when things don't work the first time. Older students are especially motivated by the micro because they can program lights, buttons, and sensors, turning abstract coding concepts into something they can see and touch. This sense of control and creativity has made learning feel like an adventure rather than an assignment.\r\n\r\nSome students who previously struggled with confidence have especially thrived with this technology. I have seen students who are usually quiet take leadership roles by explaining coding steps to classmates, and others persist longer through challenges because they are excited to test their ideas.
