One student immediately pointed to a photo of a bridge and started describing a trip they took, using the exact vocabulary words we had just introduced. It was a beautiful moment of instant connection.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we are using these photo libraries during our small-group literacy rotations. The students use the cards to build \"context sentences\" and play matching games that reinforce their reading comprehension. The packages were super exciting for me to open and so fun for the students to explore! Through these activities, special education students have been able to build their functional skills. From students who are working on basic inset puzzles, letter identification, and basic tool use to students who are working to refine their handwriting and overall written expression skills, all of the students on my caseload have benefitted from the new materials. New materials are exciting and really help to engage students in learning, plus they allow for greater generalization of skills through task variation. \r\nI really enjoyed working with the Construct-A-Letter Activity Center. This kit was great for my students who are working on upper extremity strength, bilateral hand skills (use of two hands together), and constructive praxis. Using these materials gave them a new way to \"see\" the letters and how they are formed through fun activities and provided the proprioceptive sensory inputs that so many of my students need. On the other end of the range of students on my caseload, I really found the \"Creating Sight Word Sentences Center\" to be helpful in helping my students to \"ideate\" or come up with what to write. Having a variety of \"sentence starters\" and picture ideas to choose from made this task less daunting and allowed for choice-making. When written composition is hard, handwriting seems harder, so providing this scaffolding in a fun way is really important for my students. Many of the other materials I ordered were interest-based and great for engaging my students in sessions. Yet others were hands-on-learning activities intended to assist students in learning how to use their hands or bodies more effectively. I used the \"Snap and Design Monster Trucks\" for all this and more! One student would focus hard and even write about the trucks so he could play with them. Another worked on fine motor strength to snap the accessories on, as they fit tightly. Yet another, who has a neuromotor disorder, worked on stabilizing himself in a crawling position to play with the trucks in order to build core strength, shoulder stability, and reflex integration skills needed for neurological development. With more tools come more possibilities and ways to engage students in the therapeutic tasks they need to thrive. They now understand that vowels have more than one sound and as a scaffold, they place \"crowns\" above vowels to help them read the word correctly.\r\n\r\nAll the more, it was the laminating sheets and the laminator that became invaluable so I can preserve all the novel and original material I created for my students.\r\n\r\nWith your help, our students (indeed they are ours) say they love coming to the intervention group. Students who would normally become overwhelmed are now learning to pause, use calming tools, and re-engage with learning. I've seen students independently make better choices, take pride in earning incentives, and begin to trust the environment around them. One moment that stood out was a student who typically reacts physically during frustration choosing instead to use a calming strategy and return to their seat ready to learn, something that was once very difficult for them.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThese resources are helping us build positive habits that will carry far beyond our classroom.
