I am writing to share the incredible impact your donation has had on my students from Kindergarten through 4th grade.\r\n\r\nBringing Code to Life\r\nWith the arrival of the Botley robots, my students didn't just learn about technology—they held it in their hands. For many of our younger learners, \"programming\" felt like a distant, complex concept. Now, they see it as a series of logic-based puzzles they are fully capable of solving.\r\n\r\nHands-On Problem Solving\r\nThe classroom was filled with energy as the students built elaborate obstacle courses using blocks and classroom supplies. Watching them navigate these challenges was inspiring.\r\n\r\nLogical Thinking: Students had to visualize the robot's path and translate that into a sequence of commands.\r\n\r\nDocumentation: Even our youngest learners practiced \"keeping track\" of their programs, marking down steps and adjusting their code when the robot hit a stray block.\r\n\r\nResilience: When a program didn't work the first time, there weren't frustrated tears—there was excitement to \"debug\" and try again.\r\n\r\nTeamwork and Community\r\nPerhaps the most rewarding part of this project was watching the collaboration. Students worked in small groups, learning how to listen to one another's ideas, take turns with the remote programmer, and celebrate together when their Botley successfully reached the finish line.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in these young minds and for making STEM accessible, tactile, and—most importantly—fun. You have sparked a curiosity in my students that will undoubtedly follow them into 5th grade and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1761960964231,"projectUrl":"project/coding-building-and-creating-with-stem/9844804/","projectTitle":"Coding, Building, and Creating with STEM!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pennington","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10321162_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760794489446","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10321162"},{"teacherId":324508,"projectId":10033295,"letterContent":"Our students were incredibly excited to see the new resources! Thanks to your generous support, our students have been able to engage in an exciting and dynamic activity that promotes teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nSpeed stacking has become a favorite activity in our classrooms. It encourages students to work together, cheering each other on and developing important social skills. The fast-paced nature of the activity also helps improve their hand and eye coordination, which supports their overall motor skills and concentration.\r\n\r\nBeyond the physical benefits, speed stacking has brought a new level of excitement and energy. Students are motivated to challenge themselves and their peers in a positive and supportive environment. This has fostered a sense of accomplishment and confidence that extends beyond the activity itself.\r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful for your support in providing this opportunity for our students. Because of your kindness, our students now have access to new reading rewards and learning materials that are making a meaningful difference in our daily lessons.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate. Many of them were eager to explore the rewards and asked when they could begin earning them. It created a wonderful moment in the classroom where students began talking about their reading goals and how hard they were willing to work to reach them. Seeing their motivation and enthusiasm reminded us just how powerful encouragement can be for young learners.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the new resources during our small-group reading lessons. Students are practicing high-frequency words, sorting letter patterns, reading various texts, and sharpening their comprehension skills through partner/group discussions and writing tasks. As they build their skills and show perseverance during lessons, they have the opportunity to earn rewards that celebrate their effort and progress. The rewards have helped create a positive and encouraging environment where students feel proud of their accomplishments and motivated to keep improving.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue strengthening foundational reading skills such as decoding, word recognition, and reading fluency, and comprehension skills. As students gain confidence, we will gradually introduce more challenging texts and provide additional opportunities for them to apply their skills independently. Our goal is to help each student grow into a confident reader who enjoys learning and believes in their ability to succeed.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping make this growth possible. Because of you, my first graders are benefiting every single day from the fidget toys, snacks, and social-emotional learning resources you provided.\r\n\r\nWe are using the fidget tools during whole-group lessons, independent work time, and especially during moments when students need help regulating their bodies and focusing their minds. I have already seen a difference in students who previously struggled to sit and attend — having a quiet fidget in their hands allows them to stay engaged in our lessons without becoming distracted or frustrated. The snacks have also been a tremendous support. For many of my students, a small snack makes a big difference in their ability to concentrate and participate, especially during our afternoon learning blocks.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was contagious! They were especially thrilled about the fidget toys — there were lots of wide eyes and big smiles. More importantly, they felt special and cared for. I explained that kind donors made this possible, and we talked about gratitude and how people they may never meet believe in them and want them to succeed. It was such a meaningful moment for our class community.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are continuing to build strong social-emotional skills in our classroom. We are working on identifying our feelings, practicing calming strategies, and learning how to solve small problems independently. The new resources are helping students practice these skills in real time — whether it's using a fidget to refocus, choosing a calming strategy from our SEL lessons, or taking a short snack break to reset. Our next steps include deepening our conversations about empathy, kindness, and self-regulation as we grow both academically and emotionally throughout the year.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping create a safe, supportive learning environment where every child can thrive. The mobile whiteboards are in constant use during science discussions and problem-solving activities. During our recent light and sound unit, student groups used the rolling boards to diagram how vibrations create sound, sketch models, and revise their thinking in real time. The Post-it notes have helped students track ideas during investigations, and I've been laminating vocabulary cards, lab directions, and game materials so we can reuse them all year long. The wireless clicker has also allowed me to move around the room while teaching, which keeps students more engaged and allows me to support small groups without interrupting instruction.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were especially amazed by the Merge Cube holding a 3D beating heart and rotating it in their hands felt like \"real scientist work,\" as one student said. The mobile whiteboards students loved being able to stand, collaborate, and share their thinking more dynamically. Even small additions like the trays and sticker dispenser have made organization smoother and celebrations more joyful. It truly felt like Christmas morning as we unboxed everything together.\r\nLooking ahead, these tools will continue to support deeper learning across subjects. We are preparing to begin our next STEM investigation, where students will use the Merge Cube to explore interactive simulations and then record their observations on laminated lab sheets. The whiteboards will support collaborative planning and reflection, and the reusable materials will help us build a growing bank of student-created resources.
