I was waiting for Winter to arrive. It never really did this year in the Mojave. ⏰ It was crazy. LOL I think we had about 2 hours of Winter this season! I guess it decided to hit the East Coast and Midwest!! I'm a bit nervous about next year! ❄️\r\n\r\nHowever, with what we did have, the winds were awful. 🌬️One day the first week back in January, I actually grabbed one of the hats. Winds were gusting 40 miles per hour during am Arrival and Recess duties. I thought some of my Kinders were going to be blown away! It was awful. Having the hat was huge for me. I know the hats mean a lot for those in our walking Community. \r\n\r\nWe have decreased our tardy and absenteeism rates so much this year!🎉 We do not want to go back to that because it is too cold to head to school. The scanner has been super beneficial as the cord no longer gets in the way! It may not seem like a big deal, but when you have a double and there is a line of eager readers, it makes a huge difference. \r\n\r\nThe blue book bins have been so instrumental in helping our \"Scary Book\" section increase the Circulation. Students see the series and front covers MUCH easier, as well as being able to pull out the bin to go through it. I was finally able to add the front cover labels, and that was even more exciting. It makes the entire section so much more organized and inviting! THANK YOU!!!!\r\n\r\nMy favorite use for the colored writing strips has been one that many staff and students have commented on. I took one and wrote, \"I am the Hero of my own story.\" The other is \"Is it fiction or nonfiction?\" I put one on each of the large, interactive, teaching TVs. Being the Harmon Heroes, it is even more important that my readers see THEY have it in them to be the Hero of their lives, which are not always easy. The other, I have been working this year with every lesson that students ask themselves before they start - Is it fiction or nonfiction? This helps them decide HOW to read the text, which helps with comprehension. \r\n\r\nTHANK YOU for everything!","fullyFundedDate":1756679679223,"projectUrl":"project/scanning-and-writing/9324495/","projectTitle":"Scanning and Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smead, Teacher-Librarian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3106361_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1672194677760","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-smeadlovestoread"},{"teacherId":3106361,"projectId":9998848,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to helping my 600 plus students have a more organized, collaborative and out of this world School Library!\r\n\r\nI still get giddy every time I walk past the I CAN Read section with the books organized in the blue bins. They help my readers locate titles with ease. We can take them to different parts of the Library, as well as out into the Courtyard. As one of my primary standards for all grades starts with \"locate information\" and able to independently find their books, having these bins is HUGE! My young readers can pull a bin out, put it on the floor, table, or stool, flip through, then put it back. I have many readers who set reading series or authors for their Library Goals. This helps them reach their goal. \r\n\r\nThe puzzle and cogs were a HUGE hit!! Both are used in different Collaboration Stations themes (Engineering & Design with the cogs and puzzles used with the book Where Oliver Fits by Cale Atkinson). Watching students who may have trouble reading, but shine with the social skills, problem solving, higher order thinking, and design be leaders is inspiring. These same students are more eager to choose books pulled with the themes as they see the connection between, and are inspired by, what they love to do and what they can choose to read about. \r\n\r\nAfter Spring Break, I will be using the tape for a math based lesson with my Intermediate students who will be practicing measuring angles on the tables that are made with the different colored tapes. We will also be featuring books that are math based, not only from our informational text section such as Math in Nature, Secret Engineer - How Emily Roebling built the Brooklyn Bridge, and Hungry for Math- poems to munch, but fiction sections with such titles as Math Attack, Arthimachicks Add Up, and Count On Me. \r\n\r\nThank you for all you are doing to inspire reading and collaborating.","fullyFundedDate":1768672753596,"projectUrl":"project/our-school-library-is-out-of-this-world/9998848/","projectTitle":"Our School Library is Out of this World!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smead, Teacher-Librarian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3106361_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1672194677760","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-smeadlovestoread"},{"teacherId":7853794,"projectId":10007530,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kindness and donating to this project. Our Library Letters are on the blue papers and greet our new students as they come to Library for the first time. Recently, I used a ream to print off the Nevada Reading Week T-Shirt order forms! Both the green and blue have been used for one set of poems we annotated. With those lessons, we also talked about how we are as life-long learners - which color was better for us? Why? When we used different writing utensils, which did we like with each color? What did not work? Why? I also used the two colors for printing off research pages from two different database sources that we annotated. The kids LOVED seeing them on the tables as they walked in.
