I have many budding artists and they could not wait to use the paints sticks. Their art projects are so vibrant. \r\nBy far, the most popular items in the donation were the appliance set for the kitchen. I am surprised we have not run out of batteries. One fine young chef served me a sushi smoothie today. \r\nOver in the block center, our students have been testing the ramps. It seems the balls move more quickly than the toy cars. We wondered if different road surfaces effect how cars move on real roads. I shared with them my experience growing up on a dirt road, so different from the streets in Las Vegas.\r\nThese new items, along with a few we are saving for a later date have already greatly impacted the learning engagement in our classroom. We are thrilled to have been selected by the community to support our room. Students read independently, with partners, in small groups, and as part of whole class instruction. We also use books for novel studies and discussions that encourage students to think more deeply about what they are reading and share their ideas with others.\r\n\r\nIt has been especially exciting to see students discover books and series that capture their interest. Some students who once needed encouragement to choose a book are now eager to read, while others are challenging themselves with longer chapter books. Students enjoy recommending books to one another, talking about their favorite characters, and finding new books they want to read next.
