I have one student that likes to sit in the tent to get away from the lights in the classroom and that comes through the windows. I have another student that doesn't typically show happiness on his face but smiles and sticks out his tongue with joy when he sits on the spinning chair and goes round and round. They all love the swing but I have one in particular that has been moving it all around the room to find the best spot for it so she can be a part of everything but still be in the swing. She has been helping other students get in it and even swinging them which is a big deal for her. A standout moment occurred last week during our social-emotional learning block; instead of just talking about feelings, students used the new tactile resources to physically demonstrate how they were feeling and practice self-regulation. Seeing a student move from a moment of frustration to using a tool independently to find their \"calm\" was a powerful testament to how these resources facilitate real-world growth.\r\n\r\nThe unboxing felt like a holiday in our classroom! When the boxes arrived, the students were buzzing with curiosity. As I pulled out the new learning games and colorful manipulatives, there were literal cheers and a few \"is that for us?\" questions. One student immediately reached for a squishy ball. That spark of excitement instantly shifted the energy in the room, turning a standard afternoon into a celebration of learning and self regulation.\r\n\r\nNow that we have these foundational tools in place, our next step is to dive deeper into verbalizing a need for the tools. These materials allow them to practice peer transition skills and cooperative play, which are essential milestones. We are moving toward a goal of student-led discovery, where they can confidently choose the right tool for the task at hand as they continue to build their academic and social independence.","fullyFundedDate":1768522891716,"projectUrl":"project/comfortable-hearts-focused-minds-sel-i/10003997/","projectTitle":"Comfortable Hearts, Focused Minds: SEL in Third Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bremner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10097488_orig.jpg?crop=1163,1163,x78,y248&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754081720473","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10097488"},{"teacherId":9352018,"projectId":7998505,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, our preschool classroom has been transformed into a vibrant, hands-on learning environment where curiosity and creativity thrive. The toys and materials you provided have become an essential part of our daily routine and are used during center time, small group instruction, and independent play. These resources allow students to explore concepts in math, language, and social development through meaningful, play-based experiences. Whether they are building structures, sorting and counting objects, or engaging in imaginative role play, students are actively learning while having fun. One special moment that truly captured the impact of your donation was when a group of students worked together to build their own \"city.\" They used the materials to create roads, homes, and parks, collaborating and communicating as they brought their ideas to life.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, the excitement in the classroom was unforgettable. Students' faces lit up with joy and wonder as they explored each item. There were smiles, laughter, and a sense of eagerness that filled the room. Even students who are typically more reserved quickly became engaged and excited to participate. These materials have helped create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all learners feel confident trying new things, expressing their ideas, and interacting with their peers. The variety of resources has allowed each child to connect with learning in a way that feels natural and enjoyable to them, helping build both confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we are able to continue expanding our students' learning experiences in meaningful ways. As we move forward, we are incorporating these materials into themed units and guided activities that encourage deeper exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. Students are beginning to ask more questions, take on new challenges, and work more collaboratively with one another. Your donation has provided more than just classroom materials—it has helped create opportunities for growth, discovery, and connection that will benefit these children far beyond their preschool years. They give students flexible seating options that help them stay focused and comfortable during lessons. Additionally, the Legos have quickly become the classroom favorite. Students are greatly motivated to finish their work so they can have time to build and create. They also serve as a calming tool, helping students regulate their emotions by giving them something positive to focus on when they feel upset.\r\n\r\nThe organizer shelf and mini pencil cases have also been incredibly helpful. The addition of technology like our Epson printer, laminator, and label maker has allowed me to create customized, reusable learning materials tailored to each student's needs. Instead of one-size-fits-all worksheets, students are now working with hands-on, visually clear resources such as laminated sentence strips, labeled word cards, and interactive activities that support reading, writing, and language development in a more structured and accessible way.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is how these materials turn learning into something they can touch, move, and explore. Items like magnetic letters, finger readers, and even the Pete the Cat hand puppet have brought lessons to life, helping students build confidence while practicing foundational skills. The ability to reuse materials with dry erase markers has also made learning feel low-pressure and fun, encouraging students to take risks and try again without fear of making mistakes.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students who previously struggled to stay engaged have shown noticeable growth in both participation and confidence. For example, some students who were hesitant to read aloud are now eager to use finger readers and follow along with texts, while others enjoy building words and sentences with magnetic letters and sentence strips.
