Seeing their eyes light up as they ran their hands over the new covers was a highlight of our year—it turned a regular Wednesday into a celebration of their potential.\r\n\r\nPride in the Process\r\nWe have been putting the sketchbooks to use daily as a dedicated space for brainstorming and technique practice. A particularly moving moment occurred recently when a student, who typically struggles with confidence, spent an entire period meticulously refining a single drawing because they \"didn't want to waste the good paper.\" There is a newfound sense of ownership and buy-in now that they have professional-grade tools; they aren't just doing \"schoolwork\" anymore—they are building a body of work.\r\n\r\nThe Road to the Showcase\r\nOur next big step is a transition from creation to curation. We are currently in the process of gathering our best pieces from throughout the year to organize and display in our new portfolio books. This exercise is helping students reflect on their growth and progress over the semesters. We are all working toward a school-wide showcase, where these portfolios will allow my students to present their artistic journeys to their peers, teachers, and families with a deep sense of pride.
