These books also strengthened critical thinking skills by asking students to infer meaning, question authority, and support interpretations with evidence from the text—skills that matter well beyond English class.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and collaborative. Students read together with me, pausing to annotate, discuss, and reflect. We stopped often to talk through confusing moments, make predictions, and connect the text to real-world ideas and personal experiences. Instead of racing to the last page, students were encouraged to slow down, reread, and think deeply about what the author was really saying. Reading became a shared experience rather than a silent, isolated task.\r\n\r\nMany students were so invested in the story that they eagerly asked about reading the rest of The Giver series and were excited to watch the film adaptation, which led to thoughtful conversations about how stories change when they move from page to screen.
