English 8 and 9 Literature Circles Many of my English students love to read, but they do not enjoy reading a computer screen in place of a compelling novel. Since COVID-19, all of my students are spending endless hours looking at computer screens. Because of distance-learning requirements, students have to access their novels via Google Classroom. My 8th-grade English students will be using Night by Elie Wiesel to learn about the Holocaust and Wiesel's first-hand account in their weekly literature circles. My 9th-grade English students will read Lord of the Flies by William Golding both as a whole class and independently. These students will meet bi-weekly to discuss the plot of the novel, how it resonates personally with them, and share any new vocabulary they discover.
