Through these paired texts, students learn how to compare and contrast narrative fiction with informational nonfiction. They examine how a fiction author uses character perspective, sensory details, and dialogue to convey a message, while a nonfiction text uses real photographs, bold vocabulary, and diagrams to present facts. We also explore how diverse authors draw from their personal cultures and background experiences to tell authentic stories about family, community, and tradition.\r\n\r\nReading in our library is active, collaborative, and joyful! You will see students gathered together for guided read-alouds, examining text structures, and holding fiction and nonfiction books side-by-side to compare features. The kids had a blast unboxing the podcast equipment and getting it all put together. I'm still in the process of editing it all in the program Audacity.
