These supplies have given students approachable ways to gather, create, relax, and connect with their school counselors outside the traditional counseling office.\r\n\r\nDuring lunch activities in the quad, students can use the art and craft supplies to express themselves, relieve stress, and participate in positive conversations. The bracelet-making materials will provide an activity in January where students to choose affirmation words that represent their strengths and goals, creating personal reminders they can carry with them throughout the school year. The pens, stickers, activities, and small incentives help us break the ice, encourage participation, and build relationships with students who might not otherwise visit the counseling office. Yesterday, we played \"Connect Four\" in the quad with students and the winner of each game was able to choose a sticker as a prize. As we chatted with the students playing the games, they asked questions about credits, future plans, upcoming events, and a one even brought up an SEL concern. Some students who typically are on their own during lunch came up to play and were paired with other students.\r\n\r\nThese resources are helping us strengthen relationships, promote emotional well-being, and build a more connected school community. Having a quick, nutritious snack available gives students the boost they need to feel better and return to class ready to learn.\r\nOne of the best parts of this project is seeing the excitement on students' faces when they ask, \"Do you have a snack?\" and we can happily say, \"Yes!\" For some students, that simple snack can make the difference between sitting in class distracted by hunger and being able to participate and focus on their schoolwork.\r\nThese snacks have helped us support students' basic needs while also keeping them in the classroom and engaged in their education. Your generosity has given my students the opportunity to experience these important works of literature in a more meaningful and personal way. Having their own copies allows students to annotate, highlight, take notes, and return to important passages as they work through challenging texts. Through these books, students are developing skills in close reading, literary analysis, making inferences, examining characterization and theme, and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text.\r\nReading Beowulf and Grendel in our classroom has also created opportunities for students to have thoughtful conversations about courage, identity, good and evil, and what it means to be a hero. Some students who initially found the language and subject matter intimidating have become especially engaged as they make connections between the characters and conflicts in the texts and stories they already know. Watching students become more confident readers as they wrestle with difficult passages, discuss their interpretations, and discover ideas for themselves has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nYour donation has done more than put books on students' desks—it has given them tools to become stronger, more independent readers and has made challenging literature more accessible to them.
