Technology is an important part of how my third graders practice and strengthen their reading skills. With access to reliable headphones and classroom resources, students are able to listen to texts, complete individualized reading and literacy activities, and work at their own pace without distractions from the devices around them. This has been especially helpful during independent work and small-group instruction because students can stay engaged in meaningful practice while I provide targeted support to other learners.\r\n\r\nMy students have been most excited about having materials that make our classroom feel comfortable and truly designed for them. The floor cushions give them the opportunity to find a comfortable place to read and work, while the fidgets provide a quiet way for students who need movement or sensory input to regulate themselves without having to disengage from learning. Even seemingly simple supplies like fresh whiteboard markers and pencils have been exciting because students love being able to actively participate, write, erase, revise, and share their thinking.\r\n\r\nI have especially noticed the impact on students who sometimes have difficulty maintaining attention or regulating their emotions. Having access to headphones, flexible seating, and appropriate sensory tools gives them more independence in recognizing what they need to be successful. Instead of those needs becoming barriers to learning, students are beginning to use these resources as tools to refocus and rejoin instruction.","fullyFundedDate":1770999958856,"projectUrl":"project/girl-put-your-headphones-on/10051659/","projectTitle":"Girl, Put Your Headphones On","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hawkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8119423_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769065702293","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hawkins3"},{"teacherId":8014798,"projectId":9202589,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom! We use the books to build vocabulary, practice listening and comprehension, make predictions, identify characters and story events, and learn that print and pictures communicate meaning. Reading the same story in English and Spanish also helps students make connections between languages and strengthens their confidence as they participate in discussions. The books also provide opportunities to talk about families, cultures, emotions, and experiences that are meaningful to our students.\r\n\r\nReading in our Pre-K classroom is interactive and hands-on. We read together during whole-group story time, in small groups, and throughout the day when students choose books independently. I encourage students to look closely at the illustrations, make predictions, ask and answer questions, retell parts of the story, and connect the story to their own experiences. With bilingual books, students can hear and explore both English and Spanish, which makes reading more accessible and meaningful for our multilingual learners. We also use books as a starting point for songs, dramatic play, art projects, vocabulary activities, and conversations.\r\n\r\nOur multilingual learners have especially enjoyed the bilingual books because they can hear and see words in both languages. I have noticed students becoming more eager to participate during story time because they recognize familiar Spanish words and can use their knowledge to help classmates understand the story. Other students enjoy comparing the English and Spanish words and discovering new vocabulary. Some students who may be quieter during whole-group activities are also more willing to engage when they recognize familiar words, characters, or experiences from the books. It has been wonderful to see our students become excited about books while also seeing their languages and families reflected in our classroom library.","fullyFundedDate":1778068737946,"projectUrl":"project/early-literacy-for-early-childhood-stude/10038787/","projectTitle":"Early Literacy for Early Childhood Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9109786_orig.png?crop=1536,1536,x0,y76&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768015675419","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9109786"},{"teacherId":8324053,"projectId":9990841,"letterContent":"My students have truly enjoyed using the headphones for new and exciting learning experiences on their Chromebooks. Even students who are typically quiet or hesitant to participate became engaged as they dug, watered, and explored alongside their classmates.\r\n\r\nOur garden has become much more than a place to grow plants; it has become a place to grow confidence, communication, and independence. Throughout our garden study, students have taken turns watering, observed changes in our plants, compared what they noticed from one day to the next, and practiced using new vocabulary as they discussed roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Caring for living plants has given my students meaningful opportunities to work together, solve problems, follow routines, and take pride in helping something grow.\r\n\r\nThis is only the beginning of our garden journey. Throughout the year, we'll continue planting seasonal vegetables, herbs, and flowers while connecting our outdoor experiences to books, science investigations, art, math, and dramatic play inside the classroom.
