Your generosity allowed these colorful instruments to arrive just in time for our winter concert, and the students had a wonderful time learning to play them. The Boomwhackers are an excellent educational tool that help teach fundamental musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, steady beat, and the importance of ensemble performance. This engaging and hands-on approach to music education has already made a significant impact in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe highlight of our winter concert was the students' performance on their new instruments. They played along beautifully to various arrangements of music from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, showcasing their newfound skills with enthusiasm. The 5th graders were particularly excited to hit members of our staff on the head as they played the Nutcracker march. Don't worry: the adults had on construction grade hard hats!\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for your commitment to enriching the educational experience through music. Your support made it possible for my students to receive a new book, \"Wishtree\" by Katherine Applegate, to read and enjoy. This book was selected specifically to match our school's winter concert theme, \"This is My Wish,\" and it has been wonderful to see the students connect their reading experience with their musical performance. The students were so excited to receive their copies and dive into a story that brought our concert theme to life in a new way. Your contribution truly enhanced their learning and creative experience this season.\r\n\r\nReading \"Wishtree\" connected text to real-world issues (diversity/empathy). Seeing the story from the tree's perspective creates and opportunity to learn about different viewpoints, analyze plot, and summarize events. There are many read-aloud videos of this text which can be used to support the reading levels of different learners. The 4th and 5th grade teachers enjoyed adding this book to their reading time.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, each student now has a book to keep and cherish, helping foster a lifelong love of reading. Your gift provided more than just books; it provided a unique, integrated learning experience that linked literacy and the performing arts, creating lasting memories for the students. We are loving our new supplies. Our room is so much quieter since we have gotten our earphones. We can actually hear our online phonics program now. We also loved playing with our letter leaves in the fall and a few of us even created our own games using the letter leaves. But nothing has made us as happy as the baby dolls, clothes, and high chair. Now we can cook and take care of our baby during play time! We LOVE our new dolls. We have had to learn how to put on diapers and dress the baby. It has brought such joy to the students. I have heard so many great role play stories since we got the babies. My students immediately commented on the patterns on the drum (African designs, based on Kente cloth) and said they look really cool. Part of our theme was music from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. The two 4th grade classes played along with a portion of Trepak arranged for classroom percussion instruments. The drums were easy to move to the front of our performance area in the gym and then take them back when their selection was over. They are quality instruments and sound wonderful. I look forward to using theme in the new year with the lower grades as well.\r\n\r\nMuch of learning to read music begins with reading icons and pictures to play along with the music. We have rhythm sticks, but that gets boring after a while. All of the students get super excited when they get to try a new instrument, so I know they will have a good time learning to read music on the new drums. I also use the drums to talk about basic science of sound with my students. Although it has a culturally inspired pattern, the tubano is a newer drum designed for classroom learning. Musical instruments are so expensive, especially quality ones, so thank you for investing in my classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1760721278703,"projectUrl":"project/just-give-me-the-beat/9630242/","projectTitle":"Just Give Me the Beat","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beede","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4047000_orig.jpg?crop=1027,1027,x192,y148&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755695149378","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4047000"},{"teacherId":4081459,"projectId":9627001,"letterContent":"Thank you all again for donating funds to supply new art materials for my three year old students. \r\n\r\nThey have been so eager to create and explore in our art area.
