The easels have made such a difference in our nonfiction section! One of my goals this year was to completely revamp this part of the library and make it easier for students to find books that interest them. Before, most of our nonfiction books were shelved spine-out, which meant students often walked right past some really great books without ever noticing them. The easels have allowed me to display so many more books with their covers facing out, and students are much more likely to stop and pick them up.\r\n\r\nI've loved watching students browse the updated shelves and discover books they didn't know we had. A great book cover can grab a student's attention in a way that a title on a spine sometimes can't, so being able to display more of our collection has been a simple change with a big impact.\r\n\r\nI'm continuing to work through our nonfiction collection and find ways to make each section easier to browse. These easels will be used over and over as I rotate books and create new displays throughout the year. Thank you so much for helping me make our nonfiction section a place where students can more easily discover something they actually want to read!","fullyFundedDate":1779672678822,"projectUrl":"project/revamping-nonfiction-making-library-boo/10301871/","projectTitle":"Revamping Nonfiction: Making Library Books Impossible to Ignore","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jernigan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8081098_orig.jpg?crop=951,951,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660066068177","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8081098"},{"teacherId":8081098,"projectId":6757415,"letterContent":"The button maker has been such a fun addition to our library! Students have been able to use it for class projects, but they also love having the opportunity to come into the library and create buttons of their own. They were excited about it as soon as they realized they could design something themselves and turn it into an actual button they could wear or put on their backpacks.\r\n\r\nI love having materials in the library that give students a chance to be creative, especially when there isn't a grade or assignment attached to it. Some students come in knowing exactly what they want to make, while others enjoy looking for ideas and figuring it out as they go. The button maker has given us another simple activity that makes the library a place students want to visit.\r\n\r\nWe will continue using the button maker for class projects and library activities throughout the school year, while also keeping it available for students who just want to create something on their own.
