Because of your generosity, that space has now been transformed into a warm, cozy, calming sensory area where students can safely go when they need a break, a moment alone, or simply a quiet place to reset.\r\n\r\nThe materials provided through this project have made an incredible difference in our school environment. Students are naturally drawn to this calming space and often refer to it as their \"favorite spot\" in the school. More importantly, we have seen a noticeable decrease in overstimulation and emotional meltdowns because students now have a safe and comforting environment designed specifically for their needs.\r\n\r\nThis sensory space has become so much more than just a corner in our building. It has become a place where students feel secure, understood, and supported. It allows them to calm their bodies, regulate their emotions, and return to learning more successfully. Many donors love books but may not realize just how many skills students practice while reading a powerful text like this one.\r\n\r\nWhile reading this novel, students are learning how to analyze character development, theme, and point of view. They look closely at how the main character, Starr, changes throughout the story and how her experiences shape her voice. Students are also practicing evidence-based discussion, where they support their ideas with quotes from the text. We talk about how authors use dialogue, tone, and symbolism to communicate deeper messages. These skills help students become stronger readers and critical thinkers, which will support them across all subjects.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is very interactive. Students read both independently and together, and we often pause to discuss important moments in the story. They write quick reflections, ask questions, and sometimes work in small groups to analyze passages. We also connect the themes of the book to the real world, helping students understand how literature reflects the society we live in.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially engaged with this book. Some students who normally hesitate to participate in discussions have been eager to share their thoughts about the characters and the choices they face. Others have told me that this is the first book they've read that feels connected to issues they see in the world around them. These flexible seating options have given students a comfortable way to move while still staying engaged in learning.\r\n\r\nAs we all know, it can be incredibly difficult for 4- and 5-year-olds to sit still for long periods of time. These flexible seating options give my students a healthy and appropriate outlet for movement. When a student feels like they need to wiggle, they can simply go to the shelf, grab a seat, and bring it to their spot on the floor. Having the ability to choose what works best for their bodies has made such a difference.\r\n\r\nWhile the seats are a little large for some of our smaller chairs, students absolutely love using them during floor learning time. It has been wonderful to watch students who sometimes struggle with focus feel more comfortable and confident participating in classroom activities.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful things I have noticed is how naturally students use them to help regulate themselves. When they feel the need to move, they quietly grab a wiggle seat and continue learning without disruption.
