She talked about how plants, and our \"more than human relatives\" demonstrate over and over that there is enough, and we have an abundance. In fact, humans have the capacity, as plants, animals, and our non-human relatives do, to live in a sort of gift economy. The service berry tree gives and berries, and the Cedar Waxwing birds spread the seeds, which helps stops erosion, which slows down our waterways and helps clean our drinking water. Our mother earth has a real way for us to learn from our plant relatives. The lovely donors of donor's choose--you, somehow find a way to share in the abundance of our economy, at a time where things don't always feel abundant. \r\n\r\nI have so many students who love our planet. Students are working at local urban farms, planting seeds with their families, selling food at a farmer's market, fishing at all sorts of secret fishing spots, using birds to help advertise for the next student council election, or running at track meet--thrilled to be outside. Thank you for the books, thank you for helping students value this one planet, the best planet, we have.","fullyFundedDate":1771960341579,"projectUrl":"project/climate-justice-books/10115937/","projectTitle":"Climate Justice Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montgomery","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5013205_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758920001265","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5013205"},{"teacherId":7459733,"projectId":9079242,"letterContent":"Our students were incredibly excited when the acoustic bass guitar arrived because it immediately meant more opportunities for everyone to participate in their rock band groups. In our modern band classes, students work together in small ensembles where they learn popular songs, rehearse collaboratively, and perform for their peers. The bass guitar has become a key part of these rehearsals, allowing students to practice authentic bass parts while learning how to support the rhythm and groove of the group. \r\n\r\nThese new resources are helping us continue to expand our modern band program and give students more real-world music experiences. As we move forward, students will be using the bass guitar to prepare for upcoming classroom performances and student-led band projects where they arrange and rehearse songs independently. They are continuing to build skills in collaboration, creativity, and musicianship while exploring different musical roles within an ensemble. Thanks to your support, our students have more opportunities to grow as performers and experience the joy of making music together every day.","fullyFundedDate":1739045230021,"projectUrl":"project/bass-guitar-for-modern-band-in-st-paul/9079242/","projectTitle":"Bass Guitar for Modern Band in St. Paul Public Schools","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hanlon-Alle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7459733_orig.jpg?crop=1999,1999,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778964822792","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/johnsonmusicspps"},{"teacherId":7459733,"projectId":9051544,"letterContent":"The Yamaha Harmony Director has become one of the most valuable and frequently used resources in my classroom, and it impacts student learning every single day. I use it constantly during rehearsals to help students hear and understand their individual parts, especially when working with transposing instruments. Being able to instantly transpose and play different musical lines live has made rehearsals significantly more efficient and allows students to better connect what they see on the page with what they hear in the ensemble. The built-in metronome feature has also become an essential part of daily instruction, helping students develop stronger rhythmic accuracy, pulse awareness, and ensemble timing skills.\r\n\r\nBecause of this resource, I have been able to teach more effectively and spend more time focusing on musicianship instead of stopping rehearsals to manually play pitches or explain transpositions. The Harmony Director allows me to quickly isolate parts, reinforce tuning and intonation concepts, and support students who need extra auditory reinforcement while learning challenging music. It has helped create a more responsive and engaging rehearsal environment where students can immediately hear corrections and apply feedback in real time. This is a learning process for all of us, and students have had the opportunity to print designs of their choosing, learn how to troubleshoot filament getting stuck while printing, and take care of the machine in between prints, in addition to exploring options for recycling filament waste. What a great way to incorporate student choice and learn the value of persistence, patience, and community care! \r\n\r\nSo far, our students' favorite creations have been tiny articulated animals, but they're just starting to discover the practical applications that are possible with the 3D printer. In the fall, I plan to have student library TAs print incentive prizes for books read and books returned, as well as for various special events in the library. The promise of using the 3D printer has further increased interest in the coveted library TA position!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your contribution to this effort in making the library a place for hands-on learning. You might have a regular computer screen at home, but this one is specially designed to be extra wide and slightly curved. It has completely changed how our students use our classroom flight simulator. Instead of looking at a small square, the new screen wraps around their field of vision. This helps them learn because they can see the airplane's dashboard instruments and the runway at the same time, just like a real pilot. It turns abstract math and science concepts into real-world skills, teaching them about speed, altitude, and how to focus on multiple things at once without getting overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the students is how incredibly real it feels. With our old, smaller screen, flying just felt like playing a video game. Now, the huge monitor makes them feel completely immersed. When they push the throttle forward to take off, the wide view of the runway rushing by makes it feel like they are actually moving. They love the thrill of flying through the clouds and being able to look out the \"side windows\" of the cockpit. It has sparked a huge interest in aviation.","fullyFundedDate":1770647779104,"projectUrl":"project/clear-skies-expanding-the-view-for-futu/9980562/","projectTitle":"Clear Skies: Expanding the View for Future Pilots","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Corcoran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2137827_orig.jpg?crop=1075,1075,x499,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734454910793","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2137827"},{"teacherId":2137827,"projectId":9963426,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing our classroom with a powerful new laptop! I have enough books for every student in the room to have a stack of poetry to page through, choosing which ones they like, and which ones they want to pass back to the table behind them. I have enough books to happily send a book home with a student. Most of the assignment can be taught in class, but sometimes the right book can hit the right student and I never want to be stingy with books. \r\n\r\nI have taught in this school a long time, and it has always been a place where kids start working for real money quite young, or parents are working two jobs, or being without stable housing is nothing to raise an eyebrow at. I have also had the joy of seeing my former students do awesome stuff like work as a doctor, get a degree in aerodynamics, coach a college team, or start working in a law office as they apply to law school. Even more heartwarming to me are the stories like a former student who checks in on his little brother who is in my class now, a student of mine who bought a house down the block, the basketball player who enrolled his son as a 9th grader, a kid who didn't have stable housing making a home of his own. \r\n\r\nThere are big challenges, like the per-pupil funding number not being tied to inflation at the state of Minnesota, or a dropping birth rate/enrollment all over the state, or uncertainty in many areas of education. I am so heartened not just for the gift of books, but for the gift of care for our public schools, care for our vulnerable children, and care for the future of humanities in education. Thank you again, and I hope you have a wonderful day.","fullyFundedDate":1769260140778,"projectUrl":"project/updates-and-new-books/9753413/","projectTitle":"Updates and New Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montgomery","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5013205_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758920001265","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5013205"},{"teacherId":2137827,"projectId":9710716,"letterContent":"While the entire class has benefited, I've seen a remarkable transformation in a few specific groups of students. Alex has often struggled with traditional lecture-style learning and sometimes felt disengaged from core subjects like math and physics.\r\n\r\nHowever, since we introduced this technology, Alex has become a leader in the classroom. The tactile nature of the flight controls and the visual data provided by the software clicked in a way that paper and pencil never did. Alex is now staying after school to \"clock hours\" and is suddenly asking deep, insightful questions about trigonometry and wind vectors because they now see the practical application of those numbers.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, I've noticed that some of our more reserved students have found their voice through this project. The technology provides a common language for them to collaborate, troubleshoot, and mentor one another. It has leveled the playing field, allowing students who might not excel in traditional testing to shine as technical experts and skilled operators.","fullyFundedDate":1763557330079,"projectUrl":"project/flight-sim-lab-upgrade-integrating-phys/9710716/","projectTitle":"Flight Sim Lab Upgrade: Integrating Physical Building and Virtual Reality","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Corcoran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2137827_orig.jpg?crop=1075,1075,x499,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734454910793","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2137827"},{"teacherId":2137827,"projectId":9910419,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation. It is going to be so much fun having students work on their new technology to have them discover the wonderful wonders of flight. My students love to use technology to ensure they're keeping up with the times always.\r\n\r\nWhile many of you use tablets or computers for work and communication, the technology you've provided serves a very specific pedagogical purpose: experiential simulation. In a traditional classroom setting, aviation concepts like lift, drag, and thrust can feel abstract and distant. However, with this new technology, my students are no longer just reading about Bernoulli's principle—they are feeling its effects in real-time.\r\n\r\nThe software and hardware act as a \"safe-to-fail\" environment. In flight training, mistakes are part of the learning process, but in a real aircraft, those mistakes are costly and dangerous. This technology allows students to experiment with complex maneuvers, understand the nuances of weather patterns, and practice navigation without ever leaving the ground. It bridges the gap between a textbook diagram and the physical intuition required to be a pilot.","fullyFundedDate":1764006170624,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-student-access-for-switch-2-es/9910419/","projectTitle":"Expanding Student Access for Switch 2 Esports and Game Clubs","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Corcoran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2137827_orig.jpg?crop=1075,1075,x499,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734454910793","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2137827"},{"teacherId":8390842,"projectId":9292423,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our engineering students. With our new Jenga game, students practice the engineering mindset skills of risk-taking, creativity, and systems thinking. By coloring the blocks and asking students to roll a colored die, they are constrained to moving only a block color that matches what they rolled. This modification to the game increases their ability to problem solve and often times increases communication within the group. The card games are utilized early in the year to build relationships through a fun activity. This is especially important when students come from all different middle schools and do not know each other yet. Using these resources we are able to create a welcoming, fun, and engaged learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe engineering-related books are a wonderful addition to our space! The museum books, Botanicum, Oceanarium, and Animalium, are resources for students to select a topic where they conduct research in order to develop an ArcGIS StoryMap. Several students have gravitated to the new books and read before class. Students also use the origami book/paper to create projects and give them away to others.\r\n\r\nOutside our classroom, the bulletin board background paper allows for student work to be displayed.
