For deaf students, having access to engaging, relevant books builds both language and confidence, and it shows them that their voices and experiences belong in the world of literature.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is now one of the most joyful parts of the day. Students settle in with their books, sometimes reading independently, other times signing their favorite parts to classmates. The room feels alive with discussion and curiosity. They are learning not just how to decode words, but how to love stories, how to imagine, and how to share their thoughts with others.\r\n\r\nOne of my students who was once hesitant to pick up a book now races to grab the new biographies we received—she proudly shares facts she has learned about leaders and trailblazers, signing them to her peers with a big smile. Another student who usually prefers to write rather than read has been drawn into our new graphic novels, connecting with the illustrations and storytelling in a way that makes reading feel more accessible and fun.
