If you have ever flipped through the channels and stumbled upon a winter weather report, I'm pretty sure you have noticed the shockingly low temperatures that MN experiences. At times, the windchill gets so low, schools are closed, however most days school is open. Yet for a 2, 3, or 4 year old their idea of having fun isn't getting bundled up in several layers of clothes (struggling to walk and keep their mittens on) and trudging outside to play in 10 degree weather. However, it is vital that children have a chance to run around, jump, climb, and swing not only to get their wiggles out everyday but for brain development and learning. A lack of gross motor time has a negative impact on a child's ability to learn and grow. This gross motor equipment will allow my students to have access to safe indoor activities to develop their coordination, balance, their independence, their risk-taking, and so much more. I am fortunate to have a large classroom and given the appropriate equipment such as the swing, the trampoline, and the climbing holds, and more I will be able to set up a designated area for my students as well as the kindergarten students to safely play everyday no matter if the temperature is -20 degrees of 95 degrees outside. I'm also pretty sure the school physical therapist and occupational therapist will be thrilled to have all of their equipment back in their classroom.
