The technology is helping students move from simply consuming technology to actually creating with it. Instead of just watching videos or playing games, students are designing, problem-solving, engineering, and bringing their own ideas to life. They are learning how to think critically, collaborate with others, test designs, make improvements, and persevere through challenges — all skills that go far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is seeing their ideas become real. There is something powerful about watching a design they created on a screen turn into a physical object they can hold in their hands. The excitement when the printers start running is unreal! Students are constantly asking questions, experimenting with designs, and thinking creatively in ways I have never seen before. Even students who are sometimes hesitant in other academic areas become deeply engaged and motivated during these activities.\r\n\r\nSome of the students who have especially connected with this technology are students who struggle with traditional learning environments. I have students who have difficulty focusing during paper-and-pencil tasks but can spend an entire class period fully engaged in designing and improving a 3D model. Other students who are typically quiet have found confidence through creating and sharing their designs with classmates. The hands-on nature of this technology gives students opportunities to shine in ways they may not always experience in a traditional classroom setting.","fullyFundedDate":1770679490574,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-student-designs-to-life-with-3d/10090631/","projectTitle":"Bringing Student Designs to Life with 3D Printing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Megan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10426999"},{"teacherId":10426999,"projectId":10078777,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our 3D printing project. Because of your generosity, my students are no longer just learning about design and engineering—they are actually experiencing it in a hands-on, meaningful way.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, 3D printing turns ideas into real objects. Students begin with a problem or challenge, design a solution using simple digital tools, and then watch as their design is created layer by layer. This process helps them understand important concepts like measurement, problem-solving, persistence, and the engineering design process (ask, imagine, plan, create, improve). It also builds critical thinking, as students quickly learn that designs don't always work the first time—and that's where the real learning happens.","fullyFundedDate":1770647769330,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-student-designs-to-life-with-3d/10078777/","projectTitle":"Bringing Student Designs to Life with 3D Printing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Megan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10426999"},{"teacherId":10426999,"projectId":10078833,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"Speak Up! Many of my students struggle with traditional forms of expression, whether due to language barriers, confidence, or limited prior exposure. With this technology, they are able to record their thinking, create digital projects, and share their ideas in ways that feel safe and engaging. It allows them to revisit their work, reflect, and improve—skills that are critical for both academic and personal growth.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students the most is the ability to create and share their own content. They love being able to record videos, design presentations, and interact with their peers' work. There's a sense of ownership that wasn't there before—students are no longer just completing assignments; they are creating something meaningful and sharing it with an audience.","fullyFundedDate":1770647770666,"projectUrl":"project/speak-up-student-voices-matter/10078833/","projectTitle":"Speak Up! Before this project was funded, our printers had become little more than expensive paperweights. We had the machines, but without filament, students could only watch as their digital designs stayed trapped on a screen. Now, those designs are becoming real, physical objects, and the difference in our classroom energy is impossible to miss.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most isn't just the printing itself, it's the full cycle of problem-solving. They design something in software, send it to the printer, hold the finished product in their hands, and immediately start asking \"what could I do differently?\" That kind of iterative thinking is exactly what engineers and designers do in the real world, and my students are living it. Many of them have never thought of themselves as \"tech people\" or \"makers,\" but watching something they imagined come to life has a way of changing that story quickly.","fullyFundedDate":1770907279220,"projectUrl":"project/ideas-you-can-hold-3d-printing-in-the-c/10091889/","projectTitle":"Ideas You Can Hold: 3D Printing in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Becca","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6815109_orig.jpg?crop=3537,3536,x0,y11&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758811680292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6815109"},{"teacherId":10304467,"projectId":9798556,"letterContent":"Our class has already jumped right into using the new resources, and they have made such a positive difference in our daily routines. One of my favorite moments so far happened during our literacy centers: students were able to choose a healthy snack before starting their reading tasks, and the calm focus that followed was incredible. It has become a small ritual that helps them transition smoothly and feel ready to learn. We've also started using the snacks during partner work, which has encouraged collaboration and made our classroom feel even more supportive and community-oriented.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their faces absolutely lit up. Many of them excitedly pointed out the snacks they love at home while others were thrilled to try something new. It felt like a little celebration in our classroom—something just for them—and they proudly helped unload and organize everything. Their joy and gratitude were so genuine, and it was a beautiful reminder of how even small things can make a big impact on young learners.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our current units in reading and math, these snacks will play a helpful role in keeping our students engaged. Our next steps include beginning new small-group reading lessons, where stamina and focus are especially important for early readers. We're also about to start a project in our \"How We Organize Ourselves\" IB unit, where students explore how a community relies on its members. Having their needs met with healthy snacks helps them stay grounded and ready to participate fully in discussions, activities, and hands-on tasks.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our classroom. Your generosity has shaped not just our routines, but the way our students feel cared for and supported each day. If you'd like, I can tailor this message further or turn it into a formatted thank-you note.","fullyFundedDate":1763494162182,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-snacks-healthy-minds/9798556/","projectTitle":"Healthy Snacks, Healthy Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lauren","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10304467"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97820","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":447,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":82,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.0,"schoolId":97820,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Global Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Global Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minnesota-department-of-education/global-academy/97820"}
