"Sitting still" is not only difficult for children at this developmental stage but can actually be a barrier to engaged learning. Students need the opportunity to wiggle, fidget, and move as they encourage the flow of blood to their brains for their best focus and effort. When students must concentrate on their balance on a yoga ball chair, they experience full body awareness and focus. Not only does this benefit their academics, but it also has an impact on social/emotional learning, as they become more aware of the ability to harness their self-control. I have witnessed students that formerly struggled with concentration and the need to expend physical energy quickly become fully engaged when given the opportunity to sit on a balance ball. Additionally, your donation to this project will help all students develop core strength that comes naturally from the type of engaged sitting required from this chair, rather than the "passive" sedentary classrooms regular seating provides.
