Because of your generosity, my fourth graders have been able to build important reading comprehension skills in a way that is both meaningful and fun.\r\n\r\nUsing the materials you helped provide, students have been practicing key skills like making inferences and identifying the main idea. These are especially important as they prepare for the upcoming MCAS test, which asks students to think deeply about what they read and draw conclusions based on evidence. MCAS can be a stressful experience, and many students feel a lot of anxiety around this type of standardized assessment. However, practicing skills like making inferences, finding the main idea, and determining word meaning through games helps lower that anxiety. It makes learning feel fun and approachable rather than intimidating, allowing students to build confidence and ease their nerves—something traditional paper-and-pencil tasks don't always provide.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting to see is how engaged my students are. They genuinely look forward to the days when we use these games. They often prefer them over traditional activities like writing in journals or completing practice test questions on paper. The games have made learning feel exciting, while still reinforcing the critical thinking skills they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a real difference—not just in their academic growth, but in their enthusiasm for learning. Thank you for helping create a classroom environment where students are motivated, confident, and eager to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1762128997206,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-play-fourth-grade-edit/9765811/","projectTitle":"Learning Through Play: Fourth Grade Edition","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rivera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3838581_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480379975776","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kindergarten-rivera"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63968","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":223,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":68.6,"schoolId":63968,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Burncoat Street Preparatory on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Burncoat Street Preparatory","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/worcester-public-schools/burncoat-street-prep/63968"}
