Because of you, my students are spreading kindness in a tangible way—and learning that small actions can create a big ripple effect throughout a school community.\r\n\r\nHow we're using the new resources\r\nWe are using the materials to create handmade friendship bracelets and build a positive affirmation board to share with others during school outreach. Students design bracelets with colors and patterns that match specific messages (friendship, confidence, courage, belonging), and we attach a short note or affirmation to each one. At the same time, we're creating an affirmation board filled with uplifting messages students can add to and take from—encouraging peers to grab a message when they need a boost.\r\n\r\nOne meaningful moment happened during planning: students started suggesting affirmations they wished they had heard before—things like \"You matter,\" \"You belong here,\" and \"You can do hard things.\" They weren't just completing a project; they were thinking about how to support someone else who might be having a tough day. Seeing them choose words carefully because they wanted them to truly help someone was incredibly powerful.\r\n\r\nHow students reacted when they first saw the materials\r\nWhen the supplies arrived, my students were instantly excited. They wanted to sort the beads, compare colors, and start designing right away. Several students who are usually quiet jumped in with creativity and leadership—offering pattern ideas, organizing materials, and volunteering to write affirmation messages. The room felt hopeful and energized, like we were building something that really mattered.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are learning empathy, collaboration, and leadership while creating something positive for others. Students are learning crochet skills step-by-step, then applying those skills to create products we can share or sell to support a cause. We've set up \"production teams\" where students take on roles like pattern reader, quality checker, supply manager, and marketing designer. It's been powerful to watch them build both a craft and a business mindset at the same time.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students are learning more than crochet. Having the materials my students need in order to fully engage with their education truly does elevate the classroom experience. It makes them feel respected and cared for. It also makes the flow of class seemless. With the poster paper we were able to make incredible projects where students researched an emerging nation state in the Medieval period and then communicated that threw the poster. We were then able to do a gallery walk of the posters with the sticky notes. This type of project really engages kids and keeps them engaged and learning \r\nSticky notes in general have been a great way for students to interact with the material and with each other. We use them in activities weekly in order to analyze maps, images, and each other's work. Recently we used them to compare maps from 1482 and 1507 to gain a better understanding about how people at the time viewed the world with the information available to them. When students are able to discuss and have a visual, the learning lasts much longer. \r\nThank you so much again for making all of this possible!
