My students have a drafting set up at home and at schools. So we use twice as much consumables. Drawing scale drawings helps my students with dimensions, symbols and measurements. The scale drawing are use out in the shop to help them with their fabrications of fittings and self projects. When our students start a project, they will draw a scale drawing of what they are about to make, the scale drawing will show the student how much material they will need to make the project. and it will double as a blue print to use to assemble it.
