They are learning about currency and value in a real-world context a much more engaging way than just a worksheet!\r\n• Literacy: The children create shopping lists, write price tags, and even create signs for their sales promotions. This purposeful writing has made practicing letter formation and sight words exciting.\r\n• Social Skills: Serving as the \"cashier\" or the \"shopper\" requires polite language, taking turns, and communication. The sequin sensory wall panels have quickly become a favorite tool in our calm-down and sensory regulation area. Students use them for tactile input during transitions, sensory breaks, or whenever they need help staying regulated. The colored paper, pencils, and binder pencil bags have helped us stay organized and support our fine-motor and academic centers. One of the most valuable additions has been our new printer, which allows me to create individualized core communication boards, first/then boards, and visual schedules right when my students need them.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were immediately drawn to the sequin panels. Many of them explored the textures with their hands and used them to help calm their bodies before returning to work. The new communication boards from the printer have also been a huge success. Students have been able to more effectively communicate and staff has been able to visually model next steps to all of the students. \r\n\r\nOur next steps include continuing to build individualized communication supports using the printer and integrating more visual tools into our daily routines. Students have been using the new materials during structured tasks, such as fine-motor stations, communication practice, and sensory-regulated learning activities.
