There is overwhelming evidence that supports the notion that periods of unstructured play and social interaction are a crucial part of children’s cognitive, academic, physical and mental wellness. Most of the students who attend our school live in neighborhood buildings where areas for play either don't exist or are not safe enough for them to play. Many of our students do not get enough opportunities to get enough physical exercise once they leave school, that is why they need to take that opportunity at school. My project will allow students to interact with each other while making up games, negotiate rules of their games and let out some pent up energy through play. We could use some soccer balls, jump ropes, playground balls, hop and skips, jacks, among other equipment.
