Across the country (and world), people use technology every day for entertainment, access to social media, for jobs, and to network/reach others. At home, many children access technology to play games as well as to watch videos/television shows - more or less for leisure and fun activities. In the field of education, we are fortunate to use technology to access information and experiences (virtual field trips) to expose students to a variety of things that they may not directly experience but also to provide a voice for those students who are non-verbal. Within our district, Teachers of Exceptional Learners also have access to a voice output app on as iPad which can be used for individual students at specific times of the day. I want to provide the students with whom I work as many high-tech and low-tech opportunities to communicate and be a part of the entire classroom despite being non-verbal or having limited language. Being non-verbal does not mean students are lacking intelligence, just a voice. Through your generosity to this project, the students with whom I work will now have the opportunity to do be heard through using the voice recording buttons to respond to questions! All of the students will have the opportunity to use the voice output buttons to respond to questions during whole group and small group lessons. They will also be utilized in various centers within the classrooms. My creativity for my children even after 28 years is probably at its highest peak now than it ever was.
