By auditing our collection, the 8th graders learned the vital skill of identifying stories that help us grow or provide support. These new books are a great daily example to all of our students that books are \"windows and mirrors\"—tools to either see our own experiences reflected back at us or to learn about the lives of others with empathy.\r\n\r\nReading in library is a routine we have built in to all of our classes, with every class dedicating time to quiet browsing and independent reading. For the past few weeks, your donated books have been on our display shelves, and the response has been so great! It has been a joy to watch our younger elementary students specifically seek out the \"8th-grade picks.\" It's such a great moment to see a younger reader feel excited to pick up a book that was chosen by a \"big kid.\"\r\n\r\nEven some of the 8th graders themselves have been enthusiastic patrons! Many of them couldn't wait to check out the very books they researched and recommended. Your generosity has not only refreshed our collection with high-interest, inclusive titles but has also given our oldest students a sense of pride and ownership over their school library. Thank you for making our students feel heard and for putting these amazing books into their hands.","fullyFundedDate":1770655295981,"projectUrl":"project/student-librarians/10080557/","projectTitle":"Student Librarians!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ross","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4791749_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1505323882543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-ross-library"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61764","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":397,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":13,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.4,"schoolId":61764,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Somerville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Somerville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/somerville-public-schools/west-somerville-elementary-school/61764"}
