This project has had a tremendous impact on not only the 8th graders, who had the opportunity to select new materials for the library, but also on the younger grades who have been so excited to read the materials chosen by their fellow students. \r\n\r\nThe 8th graders chose their materials only after completing an analysis of the existing materials in our library. Every group picked one section of the library and looked for books that needed to be replaced due to wear, or gaps that were existing in the collection. Through this project, they had the opportunity to practice a real-life application of data analysis, while also having conversations about what stories are important to tell and to see in school. Although the choosing of the books was the intellectual meat of the project, the real pay off for the students was getting to see the culmination of all their hard work as the books started to arrive! They were so excited to see that the work they did created a real change to the space, and that is thanks to you!!\r\n\r\nIn addition to the 8th graders loving the new books, the younger students also were so excited to see the new materials. They loved hearing that these books were chosen not by the librarian, but by students just like them!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your donation, and for supporting West Somerville Neighborhood School.","fullyFundedDate":1739558686237,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-books-for-school-library/9110009/","projectTitle":"Diverse Books for School Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mann-Wood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9921954_orig.png?crop=1127,1127,x31,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739375214889","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9921954"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61764","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":397,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.2,"schoolId":61764,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Somerville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Somerville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/somerville-public-schools/west-somerville-elementary-school/61764"}
