As you know times are difficult for many families and students do not always have the necessary supplies to start the school year. With your help and the personal supplies that I purchased, I was able to provide students with their own pencil boxes filled with pencils, erasers, glue sticks, scissors, markers, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, and dry erase markers. I was also able to provide snacks for students who forgot them at home or students who were unable to supply their own. \r\n\r\nIn addition to all of the items listed above, your generous donation provided classroom read a louds for the children to enjoy while having snack, notebooks to write their weekend news and story problems in, poster board and Sharpie markers for students to use when making projects, pencil sharpeners to keep their writing sharp, lollipops for rewards and test taking and laminating paper which is used to make activities durable and reusable. \r\n\r\nAs you can imagine, a lot goes into supporting students in school each year and your generosity made my job a whole lot easier. The students and I truly cannot thank you enough. It is truly incredible to see their imaginations come to life through their creations. Students who were previously unable to focus on listening to their partners are now able to share their thoughts in meaningful ways because they can choose to sit in a position that best suits their learning style.\r\n\r\nThe STEM kits have been a welcome addition to our Force and Motion unit. Students are highly engaged in using the city-themed magnetic building blocks to construct bridges and highway ramps. The kindergarten students showcase what they have learned as they discuss with me about why they designed their bridge a certain way during this play-based application of physics and engineering concepts. Their understanding of how pushes and pulls control movement is amplified when they begin using the \"chain\" reaction building kits to direct a ball into a goal. The Toniebox has really enhanced this area! \r\n\r\nWhether it is striking some poses for some mindful meditation, listening to some classical music while working with sleepy time Tonie, or traveling the seven seas doing breathing and body exercises with their pirate Tonie, students are able to choose a variety of ways to relax and reenergize. The Laurie Brekner Tonie provides catchy songs that students love to dance and sing along with. \r\n\r\nLast but certainly not least, these Tonies have allowed students to access audiobooks, essentially for students who are learning to read and need something more complex than what they can read on their own. When the big box of materials arrived, the excitement in the room was contagious. The children were especially thrilled to see all of the new paints! Painting is always a favorite in our art room, and now we can explore it in so many different ways. One student exclaimed, \"We have so many colors!\" while another immediately asked if we could start painting that day.\r\n\r\nAlready, our PK–2nd grade students have been using these materials to dive into projects that help them practice fine motor skills, express their creativity, and build confidence. For example, in one lesson we used the new paints to explore warm and cool color families, and the students couldn't stop sharing their discoveries with each other. These resources make it possible for me to give them more choice and variety, which helps every child feel successful as an artist.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps include larger collaborative art pieces where students will use these supplies to create pieces of art that brighten our school hallways. The projects we will make this year, whether splatter-paint action art, color-mixing experiments, or community displays, are only possible because of your support.
