These supplies may seem simple, but they have made a real difference in our day-to-day learning.\r\n\r\nThe materials are being used every single day. My students rely on the pencils, stapler, timers, and visual supports during reading, writing, and discussion activities. With these new resources readily available, students are able to jump right into learning when they come to class each day. No time is lost at the beginning of class searching for a pencil, asking to borrow supplies, or feeling unprepared. Instead, students can focus on learning from the moment they walk through the door.\r\n\r\nThe timers have been especially helpful during writing activities, helping students stay focused and manage their time effectively. Students also regularly refer to the visual supports around the room when they need help organizing their ideas, finding evidence, or structuring their writing. These simple tools help students work more independently and build confidence in their abilities.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies arrived, students immediately noticed them. Students commented that our classroom looked \"all stocked up!\". Others were excited that there would always be pencils available when they needed one. It might seem like a small thing, but having the tools they need removes barriers and helps students feel prepared and confident.\r\n\r\nRight now, my 8th-grade ELA students are finishing our novel study of \"Refugee\" by Alan Gratz. They are engaging in close reading, class discussions, and writing about themes such as resilience, courage, and hope. As we move into our final projects, students will continue using these resources to organize their work, manage their time, and strengthen their reading and writing skills.\r\n\r\nI teach an amazing group of students who work hard every day, and your generosity has helped create a classroom where they can focus on learning rather than worrying about whether they have the materials they need. The snack bars have been especially impactful. Many students come to school hungry or without having had a chance to eat breakfast, and having healthy snacks available helps them stay focused and engaged throughout the day. The hygiene supplies have also been well used. Students appreciate having access to deodorant, mints, Aquaphor, tissues, and other essentials that help them feel comfortable and confident during the school day.\r\n\r\nWhen I first introduced the materials, students were genuinely excited and grateful. Several students commented that it felt like our classroom had everything they needed. It was clear that having these resources available helped them feel cared for and supported. These items all make a huge difference in helping middle school students feel ready to learn.\r\n\r\nRight now, my students are reading Refugee by Alan Gratz and participating in discussions, close reading activities, and writing assignments focused on empathy, resilience, and perseverance. Having access to snacks and basic care items allows students to stay focused on these important learning tasks rather than worrying about unmet needs. The recordings also allow teachers to collaborate with colleagues and instructional coaches, creating opportunities to share successful teaching techniques and build stronger classroom experiences for all learners.\r\n\r\nTeachers are using insights from the recordings to make lessons more engaging, increase participation, and better respond to student needs. Fruit snacks are my favorite!\" Students were especially excited about the variety, such as fruit snacks, Goldfish, Rice Krispies treats, granola bars, crackers, and Slim Jims, which quickly became the most talked about items in the room. Something as simple as having choices made students feel special and cared for during a stressful testing week.\r\n\r\nWe passed out snacks during testing breaks throughout all four MCAS exams. Testing days are long and mentally exhausting, so having snacks available helped students stay focused, energized, and motivated. One moment that stood out was seeing students carefully save their favorite snack for after a difficult section of the test because they said it gave them \"something to look forward to.\" Another student came in nervous one morning and immediately smiled when he saw the basket of snacks waiting for the class.\r\n\r\nThe snacks also helped create a calmer and more positive atmosphere during MCAS week. Students were so genuinely appreciative that people they had never met wanted to support them.
