No time is lost at the beginning of class searching for a pencil, asking to borrow supplies, or feeling unprepared. Students also regularly refer to the visual supports around the room when they need help organizing their ideas, finding evidence, or structuring their writing. These simple tools help students work more independently and build confidence in their abilities.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies arrived, students immediately noticed them. Students commented that our classroom looked \"all stocked up!\". Others were excited that there would always be pencils available when they needed one. It might seem like a small thing, but having the tools they need removes barriers and helps students feel prepared and confident.\r\n\r\nRight now, my 8th-grade ELA students are finishing our novel study of \"Refugee\" by Alan Gratz. They are engaging in close reading, class discussions, and writing about themes such as resilience, courage, and hope.
